I thought for sure her dad had something to do with it, but it's been a long time since I played those games, I'm not sure. There's a new one coming out apparently either late this year or next year.
The first game had no mention of her dad. The sequel game, Rise of the Tomb Raider, is where her dad comes in; in a very similar way as the movie but different island. Shadow of the Tomb Raider I think it's called, very fun series of games.
Got it. Like I said, it's been a while. Especially that first game. Both of them were very good. I think they compare well to the Uncharted Series even though I enjoy Uncharted more. Tomb Raider does a good job of mixing anxious, gritty moments with mystical voodoo. It's a shame the movie isn't great. I like the actress a lot and I think Tomb Raider has potential. I think the trap is trying to adapt a video game using the same basic plot. The best way to do it is to tell a different story with the same character in a similar tone. Otherwise, you're just retelling a story that's best told in a different medium. It's why I'm not exactly itching for a Last of Us movie. The game is as cinematic as any game I've ever seen. I don't need a movie recapturing those same beats.
On Netflix the documentary, Born Strong, I loved it. Whether your into this sport our not I have always been fascinated with the competitors preparation and level of commitment it takes to be great. Along those same lines the documentary - Eddie: Strongman I really loved that one as well. Get to see what Eddie Hall is really about behind the scenes. That documentary also takes place before the Born Strong one.
I do think there are a few franchises where following the games "story" would work though. Zelda has a pretty rich history where they could pull from a few games. IF they ever end up doing a live action Halo movie it needs to be about the Halos, Covenant and the Flood. But for the most part, you are right. Most video games have little to no actual story. Tie together all the cut scenes and it equals like 10 minutes. You ducking behind stuff and shooting at people for 5 hours in a game will not fill out the other 110 minutes needed to tell a compelling story for a film.
Pacific Rim 2, not as good as the first one but there are two things I learned: 1) I still love giant robots fighting giant monsters. 2) John Boyega can carry a movie by himself. Great "shut off your brain for 2 hours of entertainment" movie.
I’m rewatching the first one on Netflix before watching #2 And I like big monster movies, so I’m sure I’ll like it even if it sucks lol
It was for me???? I’ve been told that while traveling different options show up, so I’m starting to wonder if their rights are geography based. I’m in the Philippines right now, and I definitely watched Pacific Rim last night. I’m surprised at the differences though because I have a US based subscription
I've download an extension on my laptop before for Netflix, forgot what it was called, but it would allow me to pick whatever country I wanted and then I would get whatever netflix shows and movies was available for them. It was super cool because you would get to see all kinds of movies that weren't available in the US and they would be in english for the most part. At least the countries where some english is spoken. Edit: I remember what it was - Hola for Netflix
Ready Player One was amazing. Spoiler Spielberg absolutely nailed it. Far from the perfect movie but I loved every second of it. A lot was changed from the book but it worked and overall the theme of it carried over. Cline did a good job of removing a lot of the cringe. That race scene in the beginning was amazing. As was the Shining part. Gundam vs MechaGodzilla! Definitely seeing this a few more times.
Spoiler Like you said, far from a perfect movie, but honestly it's the best movie of the year so far for me. Having not read the book, for a split second when he changed into the Gundam, I saw a flash of color and thought he turned into Voltron. I would have likely soiled myself had that actually happened (granted I would have just sat in the mess as I would never walk out of a theater when Voltron was battling MechaGodzilla). But Gundam was pretty awesome too. I told my friends, one of the better parts about this movie is it's 80s-ness. Not the easter eggs and pop culture references (granted those were awesome as well), but the way Spielberg almost stepped outside himself and thought, "How would I have directed this movie in the 80's?" It just has that fun, innocent adventure feel to it. They didn't try to make it gritty or dark or whatever the flavor of the month is in Hollywood. They just made a fun adventure film. My wife went in thinking it was just another summer action movie she was being dragged into. But she walked out smiling ear to ear.
Spoiler Fun and innocent is a great way to describe it. The book delves into some darker plot lines that we didn't get to in the movie. Yeah Wade's Aunt gets killed and the back story for Artemis' parents could be label as dark but it was just a drop of water in a lake of colorful awesomness. You know what scene nailed the 80's/90's feel for me was? The ending where they showed the villain getting put into a cop car and then it drives away. Also Mark Rylance absolutely nailed Halliday. "Thanks for playing my game."
