WTF. Why does it "not" behoove us to win more games the rest of the season? Do they think we have a pick or something?

That comment exposed someone’s current state of expertise in their job. At a minimum at least regarding the Lakers.

Someone better till Griff we got no pick this summer. Unless we get our pick from Philly back...wait, is there a Randle for Amir/our 1st rumor that I don't know about?

This is why I'm not buying that report. There's literally no reason for us to stop trying to win games.

I was waiting how long it would be until this was pointed out. Whether or not this happens, this “report” is purely one person’s speculation.

Hearing it's possible the C Bags could hold off on officially signing Monroe until after the trade deadline to maintain flexibility.

This is a really interesting article to read if you're wanting to get an idea why free agency this summer is going to be a s*** show. This undoubtedly affects us cause obviously the 2018plan. It negatively affects us since it is going to be an absolute miracle for a team to take on Deng. However it positively affects us in that there is less money for other teams to throw at Randle and that means we're most likely to retain him for far less than his true max (ie reports are stating that it will be common practice for non-tax paying teams to offer their MLE amount of 8.8M and that's it). Retaining Randle for about 10M isn't as far fetched as we once thought. Stretching Deng gives us 11M in cap space...imagine that entire amount going to Randle. That means LA is looking at 51M in cap space with Clarkson on the roster and 64M without him (ie trading him for expirings). There's your 2max capspace necessary to execute our 2018plan all while realistically retaining Jules.

Isn't Cuban with his desire for Randle the one team that likely bids higher on him than we'll pay?

LT, Dallas has roughly 20M in space this summer. We've seen how Cuban operates when it comes to restricted free agency (ie Noel). There is no way he will overpay to bring in Randle. He'll let the market dictate his price (which many are projecting it to be 8.8M ie non-tax MLE and make an offer accordingly). The days of BYC (base year compensation) are over with the previous CBA, so there is no poison-pill contract option available to Cuban for him to use against us.

Julius Randle will sign for much more than $8.8M @vasashi17

I agree that he'll sign for more, but not much more. Read the free agency article I posted. Money is drying up in the NBA and its no joke.

I just want to say if you listen to the podcast like I did and under the context of Woj saying this it didn't sound like he knows this for sure. It was almost like his opinion. He never said this is what I've been hearing or this is what I'm gathering. Yes, it's woj's opinion so it carries something. But based on how we've played recently. I don't think we make a move and if we do it won't be moving Randle.

There's speculation now that Smart won't see a much better offer than that and since they're in similar situations, it's worth thinking about. I don't know though. Given Dallas's reported interest, it seems like Julius will see a solid payday still even in a deflated market.

    We'll find out though.

We can sign Randle, have enough to sign George and still have enough cap space to sign a center to a decent contract. At this point, that's sort of my hope.

Interesting read but as the article says, there are 7 teams with significant cap space and Julius is definitely a Top 7 free agent.

I don't know about that real. I don't think Smart and Randle belong in the same sentence in terms of talent and value.

I would be soooo happy over that. Or a quality back up PG if needed following AC's hopefully continued progression and BI's growth there as well.
