Lots of good young players, and we have two of them. I hope whoever we get leaves them with us to develop.

I would be fine with this. But if we do we should keep Randle. This is why I say don't trade anyone for peanuts now, see what happens in the summer. Of course we still need to see if we can move Deng at the deadline.

The goal should be two max players because I have serious doubts any single star is going to come here by himself without another guy in tow. Not many players want to be the man enough that they'd sacrifice a chance to win now to be that man. I think Westbrook might be the only guy.

If we get one max player I'd be very surprised. Delighted, but surprised.

I think playing w/Westbrook will wear George out by the end of the season.

I think losses pile up there, they get bounced from the first round, and Magic sells his a** off; yes, I could be delusional, but I think we got this...

Randle is a good dude; good character, hard worker, and he is having a good season.

As I mentioned in another thread, I would experiment his role at the starting 5. Give him mins. See what you have there. I don't think next years Free Agent Market is going to be kind to non-stars, and Julius might be looking for security.

    Guess we will see...

Totally agree. I'd love to see him start for a bit to see what he can do there. It would be crazy if Luke would actually play his best players as the starting lineup. I doubt it happens but I'd love to see Kuz and Randle start at the 4 and 5 for some games to see what we've got. Then you could imagine having PG out there instead of KCP. I doubt Luke actually does it, but maybe later on as you said in March or something. The Lopez/Nance pairing out there for the starters is just not good. And it's pretty silly to start Nance at all. He's not going to be our starting PF moving forward. He ruins the spacing because he can't/won't shoot. He's strictly a bench player.

My feeling is we really need PG. Hopefully OKC gets bounced early and he sees an opportunity here. If you can get Lebron too, I do it because he gives you the best chance to win. If no Lebron I still go after Cousins with PG. The upgrade over Slowpez is enormous. If you get Cousins you probably let Randle go. If no Cousins, I try to keep Randle. Agree with you about security and maybe there won't be a huge market for Randle this summer.

I agree. I think George has to be the blitz move, but even George said he won't come unless it's an "avalanche" of players I think he said. We need more than just one and we need room for two. I think the natural desire is LeBron/George. I think it's the right fit.

If you can't make that work, you try to get Cousins and George. The two of them could work together well and Cousins's talents fit well with our offense. Obviously he's a big question mark though and it's going to be interesting tracking him through this season and the success of New Orleans. For what it's worth, Cousins said he'd like to stick around in New Orleans.

I think we are so "top shelf talent deficient", but I'd love 2 max guys, though. I'm just hoping that Rob/Magic can convince George to take on the challenge and take a risk with our promising young core.

Thanks for the Cousins info; first I heard about that, which sucks.

Is anyone else having a hard time embracing the what if scenarios after this many seasons of losing?

I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

The worst what-if scenario is getting no one and maybe re-signing Pope, Lopez, and Randle to long-term contracts leaving us Cap strapped.

That's also probably the most likely scenario so... yeah that's pretty stressful.

But the Lakers are a long-shot only because they don't have Paul George. :D

The way I see it, we won't get anyone without getting another one. As much as I believe Paul George would love to be a Laker, I feel like he's not coming here to a team that's maybe as good as the Thunder when he can just stay with the Thunder. If LeBron is on board though, that changes things significantly.

For what it's worth, Bobby Marks, an ESPN shill, put out an Insider piece on what the Lakers options are. It's really nothing new, but he basically said what we're all thinking: hold on to the pieces you can as long as you can. He also said that sources have told ESPN the Lakers are unwilling to attach 1sts to Deng to move him, so stretching him is the only option for us. That means in order to get 2 max deals, both Clarkson and Randle have to go. In his opinion Randle should go at the deadline so we don't risk losing him for nothing and Clarkson should go in the summer if/when we have guys willing to commit to us.
