Video Interview: http://www.nba.com/lakers/video/teams/lakers/2015/01/29/150129shootaroundkupchakmov-3504378 Mitch trying really hard to keep that Poker face going when talking about winning games, but the possibility of falling back and getting our own pick back. haha
He more or less said we wouldn't make moves to win games this season, didn't he? He didn't want to make a move at the deadline to "win two or three more games this year"? Pretty illuminating interview though. It's more or less what we've all come to expect: the Lakers FO are pulling the strings to tank this season, but he wants Byron building a culture of pushing their hardest still. Fine line they're trying to skate here.
Some things here that Mitch never says during the middle of the season: "I think the first thing in order is the draft" "We need to be in a position to do something prior to the trade deadline". Mitch has always brushed aside the trade deadline as something not likely to produce anything and talking about the draft now is waaaay early for him. I am sure he and Jim are in tank mode regardless of what he says here. With Kobe out, it makes the decision easy and most importantly, easy to execute.
Most of Mitch's comments are exactly what fans have been wanting to hear. Build the right way around youth, fans will stay strong as long as there is hope for the future.
Yeah, I liked Mitch's comments. Sounds like they are committed to rebuilding this team the right way. Best of all, they aren't going to just slap something together and pray it falls into place somehow on the court.
This is a great quote. Tells me that the Tank is officially on from the FO. Also tells me that they are focused on a long term rebuild using this top 5 pick as THE center piece (double meaning if the pick is Oak or Towns) for the future and that Free Agent focus going forward is based off the pick and not the other way around. Excellent news. Pick a big = sign a wing. Pick a wing = sign a big. Works for me.
We really need to drop another spot. I won't be comfortable until we are at 3. But Philly is going to pull a Washington Generals on us for two games, so we almost have to assume we have two wins for sure right there.
Yep, agree with everyone. Tank is on for good reasons. It's the only way to go right now. Just hoping we can secure the three spot and that Minny keeps up the winning that they started before the ASG. We aren't going to out tank Philly or NY. Philly are pros at that game and NY already has three more losses than us and have thrown in the towel. Agree all the way with Mitch and had already come to that same conclusion. You don't build around Kobe. You start with that top 5 draft pick and go from there. Like TIME said, draft a big, go after back court help in FA, and if you end up with a wing/guard you go after a big in FA. We don't know what we'll be doing until then. Just keep that pick!!
Too little too late, after the bonehead coach hirings and other regrettable decisions of past several years including getting "Basketball Reasoned" ...... for Jack it seems. Jack Nicholson -- I'll Sell You My Lakers Tix ... I'm Sorta Over It JACK NICHOLSON I'LL SELL YOU MY LAKERS TIX ... I'm Sorta Over It 2/22/2015 12:45 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF EXCLUSIVE Lookin' for some insane courtside seats to the Lakers game? Jack Nicholson tells TMZ Sports he's willing to sell you his for face value ... since he's not as motivated to go the Staples Center as he used to be. It's actually pretty sad ... Nicholson -- who's been a staple at the Lakers games for decades -- was leaving Madeo in Beverly Hills when he told us he's just not as into the Lake Show as he used to be. We're guessing the team's abysmal record has a lot to do with it. The good news? You could sit right next to stars like Leo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg ... that is, if they even feel like showing up these days. Now this is really sad. I hope he's really not done being a Lakers fan and when we do get better he comes back on a regular basis. For the record though, he didnt seem completely all there in the video. Little too much to drink??
^Well...Dr. Buss is gone, West is gone, Kobe is close, the Showtime Era is like Camelot history. Nicholson will be back when the team becomes competitive again. On Kupchak's address? And the Oscar goes to...
