Yeah. They really drove us into a huge hole with only poor options to get us back out.

Imagine being the player who is traded with Deng, and how happy they will be.

Yeah they'll know they were traded because he came in out of shape and not up to his professional responsibility and it was all down hill from there. What a bummer for whoever it happens to.

Any shooters on expiring contracts that we could look to trade for?

Larry Coon on Amnesty. Mitch and Jim screwed this up. No two ways about it. What a joke.

I don't understand. The quote is denying what Pincus claimed. Why are you blaming Mitch?

I don't understand how you can't blame Mitch for this mind-numbing MozDeng move.

If it is true that they had no idea that the new CBA wouldn't have an amnesty clause, then that is disturbing.

However, what is more disturbing, is believing they had an amnesty clause....cause why the f*** would you sign a bad contract, thinking that you would have an out with the amnesty? An amnesty clause is used for those occurrences where you acquire or fall into an unanticipated bad contract. You don't take the risk of blowing your cap space on 3rd tier players (after years of acquiring that cap realty) only to make that move knowing you have a fallback plan in the amnesty.

But here's the more absurd part of this story...the amnesty has always been available to remove one bad contract off your team salary...so then why sign 2 bad deals? Go kick rocks Mitch and here's my magic wand salute to you sir....

i think the FO wasn't worried about amnesty because they thought they were making good acquisitions. many people around here were quite happy with deng's contract they day he agreed to it. who knew he would be useless from day one? he was good the season before.

people were (justifiably) tired of swinging and missing in FA and turning the entire roster over every year, so they pivoted and overpaid to acquire a couple of vets who they thought could start and provide some leadership.

to me, ironically (and i know maybe jim buss didn't think this), it signified that they were going to just try to develop the young players and accept the rebuild. the 2018 plan wasn't mitch's. that's rob and magic. i think mitch's was more of a 2020 plan, at which point those salaries wouldn't matter.

that said, of course he had no idea they'd be that bad (deng in particular--moz did what i expected).

You said it abeer....overpaid! "Quite happy" is a stretch with the overall vibe around here at 9:01pm that day. A small contingent tried to justify the move to the large majority that had their pitchforks out (justifiably).

What made the move even more asinine is that Moz's agent said he had no dialogue with Mitch prior to free agency. He threw a number high enough, hoping it would stick and obviously they took it. It was absolute insanity, only to do it again (at a higher number) for Deng (whose point production has been in steady decline since the 2013/14 season).

Mitch and Jimmy deserve no outs on this...any way you look at those signings, they were absolutely absurd.

go to the deng thread. open page 1. read and read and read. come back and modify your original statement.

^^^Nah, I'll pass. I don't want to re-evaluate how I look at some folks around here if I do haha.

If I misread anything, it was your reference to fans being "quite happy" for the Deng signing, when I referred to the 9:01pm Moz signing instead.

Either way, your tone towards justifying the FO's MozDeng move was what I was debating. I have no reason to modify my original statement or my original attitude towards that. It was reckless then and more so now if the amnesty rumors are true.

Anyways...going back to the 2018 plan that you're not so fond of, it looks like Philly is all but bowing out and now its a 2 man race between LA's young core vs. Chicago's young core. Chicago has about $40M to spend while LA has about $50M (and that includes Deng's contract).

Mosgov at 12:01. Really let that stink in. That move cost us Russell. Regardless of his issues, he would still be a Laker if not for that move.

Deng? Why 4 years? Seriously? Why? 2 years at max money would have made more sense since you have to fulfill the 85% payroll minimum.

Jim and Mitch did their worst work on those 2 deals. And it cost them their jobs.

We have a glut at shooting guard (loose term). If we're going there, Ray Allen?

Wasn't there a rumor of Hezonja available? Does Orlando still want Deng?
