For the right players yes I’d move either of them. I’d want more for Ingram of course but neither is untradeable to me.

We're talking about dumping them NOW to unload Luol. There's creative ways to keep BroLo and have cap space already for one max free agent.

I'm including Julius now in being against this after seeing what he's capable of following his summer of transformation.

Hell Deng, Zubac, Clarkson, a lightly protected 1st and a couple of seconds. Keep Randle. Lonzo, Kuzma and Ingram non-starters in the conversation.

I like Randle and what hes done so far this season, but if we can dump Deng, we have to do it. Kuz and Ingram? They can go suck an egg. Ideally we trade Nance and get back a different bad contract that isnt quite as bad, but no would be unbelievably helpful. We can probably get both LBJ and PG-13 and retain Lopez.

If we trade Ingram or Kuzma to dump Deng my anger will reach unknown levels. Randle and a pick, ok, since he probably doesn’t figure into our plans long term. Some combination of Zubac, Nance, JC, picks, eh I guess. None of it seems likely though, who the hell would want Deng.

I mean, Deng and Clarkson is a gigantic amount of salary, but would you take Deng's contract in order to get Clarkson? We dont want to give up Randle, Ingram and Kuzma. We probably need to give up one, so it needs to Randle. Look at the bright side. LBJ could be our starting pf, so we'd have Kuz as our supersub and if we dump Deng without having to stretch him, we might end up keeping Clarkson too.

Especially giving the improvement in Ingram’s game this season he is untradeable. Dude looks like a future star. He’ll be in the discussion for two two players very, very soon. No way I’m trading that kid.

Team buyout has it where Deng gets less owed to him by Jeanie and the owners, but his entire guaranteed salary remains on the books and affects our cap for the next 3 years.

In your scenario @Cookie, Deng gets paid his buyout amount, but after he signs with another team, it's only in that season where the dead cap amount has a set-off amount and the Lakers get that credited back in team salary.

So in a nutshell, we trade Deng we lose an asset just to dump his contract...We're f***ed. We buyout Deng and he may save Jeanie some coin but our cap still carries his salary...We're f***ed. If we stretch Deng, we get a reduced amount in dead cap...But we're still f***ed.

Whatever good Mitch did, in the end, he f***ed us!

absolutely zero sense in attaching ball/kuzma/ingram to deng right now. that's a deal that can happen in the summer if need be, once you've got guys committed to taking your money. for example, lebron and PG call and say: we're coming if you can clear space. that's when you add an asset. because you're trading for lebron.

right now, you're trading for a chance to pitch lebron and a possible chance to overpay the next deng.

in other words, it's exactly the same way i felt about the russell trade.

Look, I am a Mitch guy as much as anybody, and Pincus has a very good understsnding of the CBA; nevertheless, why would a GM ask a beat writer (at the time) why Amnesty didn't go through. Really? Isn't this Mitch job to know these things? Or at least be aware that it may not go through if he's in the inner circles? Was he losing it?

    My Goodness.

Those final two contracts from the jimmy era were anchors for sure. Will be interesting to see the final toll they take once the Deng situation is completed.

And how do you make moves like that banking on something that isn't a sure thing? Just straight up incompetence from the whole front office honestly.

Exactly. Now, we're stuck with an albatross of a contract; and that kills our flexbiity next summer.
