Jamele Hill was suspended by ESPN today for 2 weeks. She Tweeted last night that fans and sponsors should boycott the Dallas Cowboys because the owner said any player who protests the flag / National Anthem will not play in the game.

She can have her opinion all day, but she should be fired, IMO. For an employee of ESPN to ask fans and sponsors to boycott a team like the Cowboys, that ESPN pays big money to show their games, is asinine.

And she was verbally warned a couple weeks ago for her Tweets.

And she sucks at her job.

I think it's also likely that the sponsors of the Cowboys and ESPN overlap, so they would be losing money to pay her!

At the end of the day, ESPN is a sinking ship. Who would've thought that 10 years ago?

She's being handled appropriately I think. She's being given the same leash as guys on the other side were given. I actually applaud ESPN for handling themselves this way.

This was a money move. ESPN can't have their on air talent suggesting boycotting advertisers of a product they themselves are trying to sell with advertisements on Monday Night Football and all their other NFL highlight programming. And it's Jerry Jones too. If it was the owner of the Jaguars or some other team we forget exists most of the time, she might have even gotten away with it. But you pick the most powerful owner in the sport who owns the most valuable sports franchise in the world. Jerry's a d***. For all we know he could have called ESPN directly and told them to suspend her or they lose all access to Cowboys camp. Don't mess with Jerry. He held up Roger Goodell's latest extension single-handedly partly because of the Zeke stuff.

^^^^ side note: Jeannie has similar power. I wish she would exert it when the league decides to screw us.

I agree with her stance, but also ESPN.

You can't call for a boycott that would effect your company without expecting ramifications from your actions.

For all i know it's the shareholders calling to stop this political bs not ESPN but i am happy for it. I cannot believe for profit companies with great track records are doing kamikaze stuff over politics. You tell me this 5 years ago i call you a nutjob.

True. Maybe not 5 years ago, but definitely 10. I think a lot of it is ego and living in their own echo chambers. ESPN thinks 80% of the country thinks like them because they surround themselves with far left leaning people and associate with far left leaning people. I would have thought that a nutbag like Trump getting elected into the Whitehouse would tone down the rhetoric because it would make them realize they aren't the super majority their echo chambers have led them to believe. But they've actually doubled down on it.

Civic norms should put a minimal cost on political speech for non politicians.
