I don't know how envious I am of OKC, cause as of now, Russ hasn't signed his extension and the fact that Presti did not involve one 1st round pick for either George or Melo, shows me that both he and Indy/NY knew that those players were only 1 year rentals. They could have squeezed Melo or George to opt in to their final year, like the Clips did when they dealt for CP3, but that obviously didn't happen. Add to it now what Melo said to SiriusXM NBA radio:

From the sound of that, its pretty obvious Melo didn't just open up his list to OKC, but rather the Knicks came to him, in hope that he would accept a deal there. Same goes for Paul George. It was going to be a 1 year deal in Cleveland too cause they all knew LaBron would opt out and they would play it from there.

Also with the salary cap potentially dropping by 1M next year, that will only make it a more stringent tax for OKC to keep all 3 of those guys.

I admire Presti swinging for the fences and praying that everything works out, but Melo is blatantly making it obvious that he's on a 1 year rental. George is probably trying to play some damage control after Indy vilified him and then smeared his name in tampering charges. His endorsing words for OKC are just lip service, IMHO. Russ is sitting on Jordan brand money and can afford the waiting game in terms of his extension and even signing for less with another team. Melo ain't sugarcoating anything and it seems like he's gone in a year. George wants to buddy up and has made it no secret that he wants to play with us, while we're sitting on cap that can sign him along with a buddy. So OKC, enjoy it while you can.

George told Amick on a USA Today podcast that Indy pretty much traded him to the "dogs".

    Chew on that bone, OKC.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to Granger, no?

Yeah I found it. He's talking about how the Pacers treated Danny. Said they sent him to Philly while Danny was trying his hardest for the team. George took it very personally and thought in regards to himself "what will they do to me? what does that mean for this franchise?" Also mentioned Roy Hibbert moving on as affecting him.

He said in Indiana he felt like a small market team just absolutely could not get multiple stars and compete at the same level as other bigger markets. Then he got to OKC and they've got 3 stars right away (in other words he's rethinking the large market model and maybe things can work in OKC like they couldn't in Indiana).

He did say that he looked at the trade out of Indiana to OKC as "go on and get your *** beat by the Warriors then". He keeps saying he doesn't want to talk bad about the Pacers because he likes some people, but he's clearly bitter.

Thanks for the clarification, Real. But one can assume if he believes Indy traded Granger to the "dogs", then they attempted to do the same with him, especially after he forced their hand.

That being said, I know he will make the best of his situation out there in OKC, but my gut is telling me, he's coming back home next year. I ain't trippin it.

Agreed. I don't see them keeping that team together, so once it falls apart, and after they lose, there won't be much reason to stay.

Thx for the love, LJ. I've been' jones'n ;) for a Lakers team that I can actually get behind. Finally getting rid of Jimmy/Mitch for Magic/Pelinka-Kob has brought me back to the mothership. Give me a team and individuals that I truly believe in and I will get back in line. However it was fun being part of the rebellion and feeling vindication after those dudes got axed for sinking us to the lowest depths ever in our franchise's glorious history.

    Okay, now I'm worried....

This season (2017/18) has his cap number at $28.5M and then follows the 5 year extension making it the 6 year $233M amount.

I admire the loyalty, I really do...but Russ is a weirdo. He could have really dictated things at the end of the year by leveraging the Lakers to get what he really wanted in OKC (ie in case Melo and George weren't great fits for him out there). This way, he avoids the risk of that contract not being there at the end of the year. Maybe there's more to the story with those PRP injections....he might be worried about last season possibly taking a toll on him this year. Either way, I wish him all the health and luck out there in OKC, but I am so hoping this experiment implodes on them now. At first I was hoping for good chemistry between PG and Russ just in case both would pair up here, but now, I want Russ-Durant redux.

Well I guess thanks for making it an easier decision now Russ.. LaBron-PG was always the combo I was leaning for!

Not a great sign. However, PG is still going to need to see how well they do over there before committing. I'm still holding out hope that they get beaten in the second round and he bails. Westbrook was always a super long shot IMO. He's been pretty happy there in OKC. We still have a chance to get PG and Lebron however.

If that means no PG then so be it. I'd still bet on us having a better team by 2019.

Still, i think it would mean more if Westbrook DIDNT sign the extension. We take care of business and show the growth we expect and we'll be fine.

It's pretty crazy to leave that much money on the table. You don't not sign something paying you over 40 million a year. That'd be super crazy, but especially with his style of play.

Well, it’s not great news, but at the same time, if PG doesn’t like playing with Westbrook, he has to for sure leave now. We’re still in the PG sweepstakes, we still have a chance at LeBron, maybe bring his buddy Wade here for cheap if they like playing together again this season but want to move to LA for business reasons. I dunno, I thought there was a chance Westbrook didn’t take that extension, but damn I guess that money can’t b me turned down and having your own franchise counts for something.
