The Lakers have a long history of paying players who were "Laker Greats" after their careers were done. Kareem got a 2 year / $5 million deal after he was ripped off by a former agent. Worthy got a deal. Magic got paid even after being retired and then moved into ownership and his current role. They even brought back Byron Scott after his stints in Sac and Indy to take care of one of their own. Of course they did the same for Kobe and I believe Odom will have a job once he's proven to be clean and sober for a couple more years. Players are always paying attention to these types of things. I distinctly remember Pippen talking about the Lakers doing this and how Scott would find his way back to LA to be taken care of. And they did just that a couple years later.
My thoughts exactly. Maybe it's a coincidence they are doing this before our big 2018 free agency period, maybe not.
I looked up ticket prices. There are 2 behind the visitor bench, 7 rows up. $2500. Each. Can one of you buy them for me. I'll send you a PM to thank you. Spoiler: Funny Who was it at CL that asked for money and said he'd send a PM to thank whoever gave him money??? Something about Catalina Island and winning the lottery. What a character.
Oh man... I can't remember the poster, but that was fantastic. He was extremely wealthy, but always needed help. That guy was fantastic.
I don't have an issue with 8 and 24 being retired, but imo it's going to look a little silly in the rafters. I think going with 24 alone would have been better. Then if anyone in the future wants to wear 8 they could say it's a tribute to young Kobe. 24 up there with 32, 33, 34, etc, just looks cleaner, I don't see how 8 and 24 are going to work really.
God this is such a sacred thread. Can someone please help me out and give me every playoff series in every championship run type of connect? Its only right. Life happened and forgot stuff lol.
That is one thing I do miss about Clublakers. You could find the Gameday thread and go back quite a ways and if you had the time find the thread that had those Finals games or memorable moments and I always enjoyed reading those reactions again as it happened Live for us who communicated in those threads. Good Times!
20 minute 4th quarter comeback after Shaq ejected and Jordan watching, topped by an improbably tip in by Kobe at the buzzer to send it to overtime
They were showing Lakers classic games on NBA TV all day yesterday. Lakers 2001 Finals game 5, 2002 Finals game 3, Kobe 62 in 3 quarters, 65 vs Portland, Kobe 43 points at Boston in 2007, awesome stuff. That 62 in 3 vs the Mavs never gets old, absolutely incredible. He was taking on 2 and 3 defenders, bombing 3's, showing every move in his arsenal. Couldn't help but think how unfortunate it was that 3 years of the best player on the planet were wasted. 04/05-06/07 all wasted, absolute prime Kobe. Stick that Kobe on any worthwhile roster those years and he has more titles. LeBron has had zero of his prime years wasted, he's been so lucky.
