Maybe Deng returns as 2005 Deng when he was in his prime at 31.

DeMarre Carroll deal just happened and he had 2 years left...Raptors had to give up a 1st and 2nd round pick to make it happen so I would expect the Lakers will be giving a similar package to any team for Deng. Likely going to be Deng + 2019 first round pick + 2020 2nd round pick. Or something like that.

If teams know we're getting LeBron and George while moving Deng in the summer, they'll be less inclined to help us. The cost will go up.

Im not totally on board with that...I think it comes down to compensation and what the teams future plans are. What current assets(players and picks) they have etc.

I definitely understand your point doe. Magic and Rob will handle bizz IMO and hell probs be gone by trade deadline.

With Kyrie out, it's exactly what Rose is looking for.

I'm still wondering what they get for Kyrie. I still, for the life of me, can't figure out a way the Cavs even come remotely close to getting a win-now deal (cause they have 32 yr old Lebron about to become a free agent) and not taking an enormous step back.

If I'm the Cavs and LeBron won't commit, I say to hell with him and his "win-now" mode. I'm going to get pieces that help for the future. I'm calling Minnesota, Phoenix, Milwaukee, even Sacramento or Orlando maybe. I'm going to sell Kyrie to the highest bidder that parts with 2 young pieces and 2 1st round picks. If those don't fit LeBron's "win-now" mode, I don't care. We're about to go through an ugly, public battle over whose fault it is that LeBron is leaving anyway, might as well be prepared for when he goes.

Heck, if I were Cleveland I'd trade Kyrie to Boston for a bunch of those picks and go full tank mode... get that rebuild started now and force LeBron's hand. It's not like they're beating Golden State anyway.

Well, that's what I would do. And that's the smart plan. But Gilbert and the Cavs probably feel they HAVE to try and appease Lebron. Either way, the Cavs fans are going to HATE Gilbert after this is said and done. It will either be you traded for pieces that "forced" Lebron to leave, or you trade for a pu pu platter of vets that will have fans screaming for Gilbert's head because he tried to appease Lebron rather than build for the future.

To add to that, once I trade Kyrie for young pieces, I ask Lebron who he would waive his no trade clause for and then try to get whatever I could for him too. I think Lebron might waive his no-trade clause to go to Boston. Try to get at least Tatum or Brown.

I'd totally move Kyrie for IT and Crowder with a pick. That might be the one move that keeps Cleveland in contention, but closes the gap between Boston and Cleveland for sure.

I doubt LeBron will waive his no-trade clause. He doesn't want Dan Gilbert to have any say in where he goes, and he knows no team is beating the Warriors this season, so there's no reason to rush the process of leaving Cleveland.

Instead, he will use the Irving situation to his advantage by weaving a narrative that makes him look justified when he leaves next summer. His goal is to have the Cleveland fans thankful he came back and put up with Dan Gilbert to deliver them a championship, and to have them understand why he needs to leave again.

By next summer, the Cleveland fans will have pitchforks in hand ready to crucify Dan Gilbert as LeBron "reluctantly" heads West to possibly the Lakers because he was "forced" out by an out-of-control and petty owner.

LeBron puts ego above all else, and so I fully expect this next season to be filled with Cavs drama all aimed at vindicating his decision to leave.

I agree completely that the Cavs are in lose-lose mode. Kyrie leaving effectively closes their window and thus puts the final nail in LeBron leaving. I don't care what they get back, they won't compete with the Warriors. You might be right and they might go with veterans, but that would be such a massive blunder. They'll literally turn into the Nets once LeBron leaves.

And I posted it before but LeBron is refusing to waive his NTC. He's going to force them to keep him for a year and then he'll leave. It's a particularly cruel thing to do to a team, but I think he genuinely hates Gilbert that much.

Boy I'm really really hoping the Cavs sign Derrick Rose today.

I get why we would get him, but that doesn't mean I want us to get him. I want Lonzo to play 35mpg straight out of the gate. He is our star player now. No need to overthink this and bring in a "vet" just to have a "vet". We saw how that turned out with Mozgov and Deng....

Sign Ian Clark and call it a day. He is young enough to get better and he's also got championship experience. He's also a better shooter and a better fit next to Ball, and he can play both guard spots. Let Clarkson be the back up PG...after all he DID play back up PG as a rookie.

Worst case, you re-sign Ennis, which I've been hoping we do. Seeing guys like Caruso and Thomas knock down 3s got me thinking what would Ennis do next to Ball if they are on the court at the same time?

I like Kyrie as an offensive force and shot creator, but he's closer to Starbury than Kobe in that comparison.
