I think my top 5 is set for the time being:
    Okafur
    Russell
    Johnson
    Mudiay
    Towns

Towns worries me a lot. I really love his skillset, but recently his coach told the media he didn't get much playing time because it was too physical for him or something like that, alluding to him being soft.

I think he really needs to get a strength training coach. His base looks really weak. I don't think he's unwilling to bang in the post, but he might be unable to right now.

Like I said, I haven't given that part any thought. That was the first example I thought of with role-players. My point remains still, I am on board to try to get Kobe another ring in the next couple years.

If we take Johnson and luck out with Durant, does Johnson come of the bench for a few years or can he play SG?

He can defend PG to SF effectively at the collegiate level, so I'm thinking he can play the SG spot if need be. We can also slide Durant around at the SF/PF position if we have to.

I view him as Jimmy Butler or Kawhi Leonard. Either of those guys can play the SG or SF spot without a problem.

Tank watch: Sixers are blowing out the Nuggets right now.

On a lesser note- the Pistons are battling with the Heat right now.

To heck with Kobe's last ring. We need to do what's best for the Lakers. If that happens to coincide with Kobe's last ring so be it, but right now we need to focus on our future not our past.

he can definitely play the SG spot. One of his weaknesses though from scouts is that he needs to improve his ball handling. I'm sure he will improve on this in the years to come which would be crucial if wanting to play at SG.

In that scenario he wouldn't be asked handle the ball much though. It'll mostly be the PG or Durant.

I agree with you, but do the Lakers see it that way?

You've watched Kobe for 20 years now, can you really imagine him being ok with a piss poor team, not making the playoffs, and spending his last season watching a bunch of rookies develop?

Honestly yes. He was fine with it this year wasn't he? Who cares anyway? We gave him everything we could. We don't owe him anything anymore. It's more important to the franchise for us to have two rookie pillars to build around. If Kobe doesn't want to help us with that part of it, then he can ask for a trade. I don't think he will though and if we draft the right kid, Kobe can be an important factor in helping us build the type of kids we need to be competitive again.

^^ Was thinking the same thing Battletested20. Of all the teams above us Orlando looks the most tank worthy right now. They may move up the list. Luckily we have a couple less wins, but I can see them going neck and neck with us the rest of the way. Maybe Philly will win more than we think.

Pretty much. I love Kobe and will miss him when he is gone. BUT, at this point we were more than fair to him. We gave him more money than he would have gotten from anyone else while he was still injured. That is not even touching on how much the franchise has stood by him no matter what over the years. We have more than met our obligation to him at this point.

Plus, at this point I think Kobe fully understands the situation the franchise is in and his own limitations.

Bottom line to me is that we simply can not plan our future around the goal of getting Kobe one more ring. We have to plan for the next decade of the franchise not Kobe's last year.

It's fun to look at the reverse standings and pretend we're in the race for the #1 spot in the league.
