...we had something positive happening early last season until the injuries crept up. Nance, Young, Russell, Black sidelined for stretches. Not something an inexperienced core can withstand.

Well, I felt that drafting DLO was a mistake. Still I gave him the benefit of the doubt and he impressed me over time. So much so that I was sad to see him traded and I had really wanted to see him and Lonzo in the back court together.

What Ball does exceptionally well was on display last night - some beautiful passing that led directly to buckets, a ton of hockey assists and he basically ran the offense all night in a game that we were leading for 3 and a half quarters. It's not like we were run out of the building by the other team. We lost in overtime after Brandon went down.

What was terrible was Ball pressing so hard on his shot. It was an awful shooting night and he'll recover.

He had 6 assists I believe - and 2 hockey assists. Not bad. The passing was nice. We should have won that game last night against a lowly Clippers team that offered no real talent on the other side - contrary to us who have 2 number 2 picks. Nice defensive sequences toward end of the game.

However, he's still never going to be a number 1 or 2 option which is what I think some Lakers fans were expecting, he's not great in the half-court, he got blown by like he was standing in mud, etc.

Fultz and Tatum looked better; Josh Jackson and Fox I heard looked better last night. He needs to hit that funky shot or else it's going to be a long season for him.

yeah, all positive predictions depended upon ball being able to hit the three at a high rate. rodg warned folks that he wasn't sure that was going to happen.

all we can do now is hope, though. he certainly has a feel for the game on both ends, in contrast to some of our other young players (randle and clarkson, primarily).

still would have liked to see him and russell play together for that reason. and because russell can score in the halfcourt.

Let's see where we are after a season of play, but fair assessment so far. I never thought he was going to be a one or two option - I watched him at UCLA and that wasn't his game. What he provided was leadership and brilliantly running the offense. That's what I hope for him here. He will need to greatly improve his D and he'll need to start getting to the rim as well.

That's what I was truly looking forward to as well, seeing Ball and Russell together as our back court. I thought they were perfectly complementary young players.

Regarding the three point shooting - that shot will fall. The issue wasn't that he didn't get clean looks or couldn't get his shot off. He was open, he was just pressing hard and bricking. Nerves, hero ball, rust . . . he'll shake it off.

he also needs his team to have a 1 and 2 option. the lakers have neither right now.

I think Brandon Ingram could be a legit number two option this year. They don't have anything near a number one though as you said. We need the FO to hit a home run next summer. Desperately.

That's the main reason he's going to struggle this year. You call him "the face of the franchise" then start building around him accordingly...

i don't think ingram's ready for that yet, but he's probably going to serve as the #1 option given the alternatives. unless they plan on centering an offense around lopez, which seems unlikely.

Russell will do well this year - and he'll probably drop 30 on Ball.

    Hype and marketing, man.

What exactly do you mean by "hype and marketing" here?

Yeah, well, I wouldn't worry about Fox. Teams will go under screens, play off of him, soft hedge on pick in roll, and dare him to shoot. Not quite sold on that aspect of his game, yet.

Tatum and Jackson, ugh. Will be watching tonight. I like Tatum. :)

Magic and LaVar along with the legions of fans on social and media hyping and marketing him to be something he's not...

Interesting!! Here's what my co worker said about BALL

There's a lot of rookies better then him, it's just he is a good marketing player. He doesn't have to be the best player, he just have to sell tickets and merchandise, endorsements etc

There's probably D-league players better than BALL

Ah ok, I got you. He's definitely not some scoring machine or defensive stopper. Anyone who follows UCLA knows what his game is all about and what to expect, he will either adjust or he won't, time will tell. But for anyone to say he isn't good and he's all hype and marketing is a different story. I won't agree with that, and I'll take it as dismissing some fans basketball intelligence having watched this kid play an entire college season and basing their opinion of him on that, not hype or marketing.

Oh, Boy. It's the G-League now, though, from what LakersBall taught me...
