Why is he saying the Warriors won? Sure, the kept a key part of their team, but they lost those negotiations and more importantly, they lost Klay in 2 years.

It's possible they're only talking short term. Almost assured championship now is better than maybe championships later. They've already won 2, keeping this core with Livingston, Iggy, West helps them most likely win it all again this season. Some franchise never get 1 title, so 2 in 3 years is amazing, 3 in 4 years would be all-time stuff. If they have Curry and Durant locked up, they probably feel Klay is the one loss they can live with. Maybe.

 

Klay will have to go eventually, they are aware of it. And the guy is better than 3rd option, he will get paid to do more somewhere else.

There are some excellent players here. Players better suited to SF earned a good deal more money than those who were more PFs last season in this range. If that continues, Johnson, Beasley, Gibson, and Williams could all see huge salaries – in the 15-18M range. The Lakers could add a quality player in Splitter if they want an upgrade on defense. That’s precisely what I’d try to do if I were LA – look at a two year, $19M deal for Tiago.

Note that Randle is in this group, meaning the Lakers are already in decent shape with their current starter. Who’d have imagined this? Olynyk is in line for a max deal. He’s right where Dwight Howard was last year – but five years younger. Zaza was at +5 last year, and he’s been even better slotted into a good team. Even if he falls off a bit, he’s an above average center and a good candidate for a short, high-paying deal or a ring chase. Noel is my favorite among the Center prospects, and both he and Plumlee could be in for massive paydays. Their deals should probably start at around 15M.

Mychal Thompson has said Klay isn't coming or at least that's their mindset right now. He said the group (including management) is dead-set on staying together for as long as this run keeps going. Things could change in two years, but right now I'm not quite as hopeful as you are.

 

So we've reached out to Korver, Rondo, and McLemore. We touched base with Iguodala. We touched base with Nick Young. One report had us checking in with Taj Gibson.

Some interesting names still on the board. I'm still focused on Korver, CJ Miles, Afflalo, and maybe Tony Allen. I may also throw a 17 million dollar deal at Manu Ginobili. He'd be a great veteran to give the young team a lesson in professionalism. Manu is almost cooked at this point, but he's got the experience to really help this team. Philadelphia almost pulled him out of San Antonio last year with a similar offer. Philadephia offered Manu a 2/30 million dollar deal with the 2nd year non-guaranteed. I'd give him basically the same offer if some of these other guys started coming off the board. I expect Korver to find a way to stay in Cleveland. Young is probably looking for more years. On a one-year deal i'd prefer a veteran over McLemore and I don't really want Rondo.

 

No I sort of doubt it. There's going to be a lot of guys waiting on Hayward to make his decision. Once Hayward picks a spot, the lesser guys start to find homes too. Teams who miss out on Hayward could panic and throw 40 million at guys like Miles or even Nick Young.
