Morey's end game is always going to be a failure, but he's gotten 3 superstars since 2013 for the sum of......

Cap space + No name players + Beverley (solid role player) Lou Williams (6th man) + Dekker (bust) + Harrell (meh) + Late 1st + Kevin Martin + Jeremy Lamb + picks (turned into Steven Adams and Mitch McGary)

He hasn't given up much of anything for 3 superstars.

He's also done this without the cap space plan, he got Anderson and Gordon and still got a star out of it. Dude can trade which makes up for his other deficiencies.

Still not going to win anything though.

Just want to say how much I appreciate Mods here on LB. it's nice you can vent or support the team but not in a threatening way if posters don't agree with you. Leftistground is in epic meltdown mode and their Mods aren't helping lol

Morey swings for the fences, sometimes good (Harden) and sometimes bad (Dwight) ... Let's see if cp3 can stay healthy, one thing that D'antoni does negatively is over play his players till they get injured, look at Kobe and Amare.... Cp3 is already known for being injury proned and is past his prime. I don't see this team going far, this trade will handcuff this franchise for many years to come watch

The thing i appreciate bout morey is his strategy shifts to current situation not planning for 18', then 19', etc. nor we'll wait for 2 max fa stuff, whatever is available and he feels he can get he goes for it....tired of these "plans" just work within the moment and do what you can with what you got

Sorry, but you must not have been paying much attention to the last bunch of seasons of Morey's shenanigans. There's a reason why his accumulation of "assets" became almost as meme worthy as the Sixers process. Remember when Morey had like 8 power forwards on the roster and drafted another one? He's all about the long range plan. He's just at the end of his, while Rob is just starting his plan.

Hes gotten bosh to sign, stole harden...no gm is perfect but at least morey isnt unwilling to adjust his plans to his current situation, i see rob/magic continuing the max fa plan in 19' season amd on if they cant lure anyon in 18'

True but it does feel like we are always waiting for the other shoe to drop and setting ourselves up for a future that may or may not ever come.

My other issue is that everyone can’t have it both ways on this. When we said it sounds like the same old plan that we’ve tried every year with terrible results the counter was that Magic and Rob were the difference and they’d get better results. But when we point out successful trades involving less talent than our young guys the response seems to be well what can Magic do.

The whole excitement around them was that things would change for the better and they would accomplish what the previous regime couldn’t. And no, I’m not completely burying them yet as their is plenty of time for them to turn things around, but the early signs don’t signal much change to me.

re: morey--he has a plan, but it involves constant roster churn, which i think is a big issue if you really want to contend.

his neatest trick has been maintaining his image in the press and with players. he's actually had quite a few blunders as a manager, but no one discusses them. hell, his ryan anderson contract just last year was one of the worst in a summer of terrible contracts.

what morey's recent victory should tell us is that we probably should have sold anything to get george. everything is made possible there because they got harden. and that was morey's plan. one star begets more stars. if we had george, i think paul might have been traded for corey brewer and a bunch of purchased non-guaranteed contracts.

also note that houston didn't have the cap space to sign paul. but they got him. this was my point about the false immediacy of dumping mozgov. ryan anderson is still on houston's roster, and they just got the top FA on the market.

I don't know if Paul would've been traded for nothing to us. George had made it clear early on that he wants to play here, just like Paul did for Houston. I didn't see the Pacers jumping at any of our offers, which were probably better than what Houston got for Paul.

Like some of said, other NBA teams do not want to help the Lakers get back to winning.

On one hand I agree that other teams aren’t bending over backwards to help us.

On the other, that can’t be used as a cop out every time we fail to get things done.

Dismissing the elephant in the room with Bird / C bag past hate of Magic / Lakers poisoning any chance with KP thinking he'll bite the bullet and take best offer on the table from Lakers for PG is :KobeConfused: . You don't give up #2, Ingram or Zubac at the very least when word from PG agent is he's coming and doesn't want the team gutted. No one should want the team gutted of the brightest remaining players of our young core so painfully and fortunately acquired with lotto chances against us past several years.

I have an account over there. I remember I joined LG and CL (the original Lakersball) at about the same time. It took me all of a month to pretty much stop posting there. There are good posters, but the mods do keep a pretty tight leash on everyone. The people here are just better in general.

My comments wasn't all bashing, I know Magic/Rob are new, just saying their course of action or "plan" aren't anything new to anyone here. I mean considering Hou cap situation, how confident are we that Magic/Rob could come up with all the technicallities that Morey just produced with Cp3 trade? Not only did Hou not have cap space they didn't even lose much future assets (1 future pick), they got a pretty decent sz exception (almost 11mill I believe) that can be used to absorb a contract later on, they still end up having both MLE and Bi lvl exception. Thats impressive considering the facts.

We use to rely on top-tier management to get things done and strike while the iron is hot; after all, timing is everything, right?

We haven't had great management in years; we tanked or got lucky keeping our draft picks, failed at signing any max free agents, etc...then we make a change at the first thing they do is trade Russell for and create space financially which they could have done NEXT YEAR and possibly gotten more for Russell.

Oh, and we still don't get Paul. Everybody was so hyped up on Ball, that maybe, just maybe, we should have shipped of the pick and Deng's contract for George. Low and behold, though, if we did that, we'd be up in arms about an 19-year old who may never be close to as good as George.

No optimism here. None. We are done for the foreseeable future, and I see nothing but mediocrity in our future. It sucks, but it is what it is...
