That would have been sweet. They trade Kyrie, LeBron and George walk in the offseason, Cavs go back to irrelevant, exactly what Gilbert deserves.

This is great, right? Gilbert now has it confirmed that LeLeaveHisTeamAgain won't be coming back after this season when they likely lose to GSW again. So Gilbert won't do his LeBron as GM thing and gut pieces to get PG in there for just a rental this season?

Rumors like this are why I'm not afraid of George going to Cleveland. That ship is sinking fast. It's held together with Elmer's glue and bubble gum. Boston may be more of a threat to convincing George to sign long-term.

Just need Hayward to remain in Utah or sign with Miami. If that happens C Bags are likely out of the running.

Why is that? If anything it would make them even more interested.

IF Clev couldn't get him to re up (per rumor) I dont see Bos being any different. In order to do that supposed biased rumor from that Bos guy, Bos would have to dump almost everyone in trades just to max Hayward and then give PG the renogiated 3yr ext. to get him to 30mill/yr. So if its Pg/Hayward/Hoford and a bunch of youth, I still dont see that team beating Clev, they'd have to dump key core guys like Bradley, Crowder, Smart and maybe even IT to get the cap necessary to do the 3yr ext with Pg. Doesn't sound possible IMO

Out of the running to keep PG. with hayward + PG, they may have enough to convince George to stay. If it's just George, that team still isn't close to winning a ring and we assume he likely comes to LA next year.

What incentive is there for George if Hayward isn't there? You think he's gonna wanna play with Horford and Thomas? They still wouldn't be good enough to beat the Cavs let alone Warriors.

Depends if Ainge is willing to gamble but I do see your point. I was under the impression that if the C Bags miss out on Hayward then they would want PG to improve the team.

I view it the opposite. With the news of the CAP being a little lower than teams expected, if BOS gets Hayward to come over its just about impossible for them to get both George and Hayward in the same off-season. By getting Hayward they lose their ability unless that make a ton of trade to free themselves for CAP room I don't see how it's possible.

I'm shocked how gun shy he's been. I figured he'd make that move at the deadline last year. Least you would've had an extra half a season to convince PG to stay.

Cause Ainge is convinced he wants to be a Laker and will be one..

Good thing is, kind of like the Lonzo situation, seems like being a C bag at heart prevents him from making moves like these cause someone not wanting to be a C bag. Josh Jackson even pooped on him as well and he moved along to Tatum though they originally want Jackson. This is great hearing and seeing as a Laker fan :)

You missed the rest of his comment

".... but I would have picked Josh Jackson #1 but he cancelled on me after I was already flying cross country to meet him."

ainge needs to keep rolling those picks over because he's not very good at making them. he likes to reach and hasn't been right yet.

Right now the C Bags are at 107.64 right now with Cap Holds, but can easily get down to 80-ish million by waiving their rights to Jerebko, Amir Johnson, and James Young. They can get down to 70-ish by waiving Tyler Zeller who is non-guaranteed. That's enough to sign Hayward to the max and leaves:

    Thomas/Smart/Rozier/Jackson
    Hayward/Bradley
    Crowder/Brown/Tatum
    Tatum/McKay
    Horford

You could trade Smart, Crowder, Brown, and Bradley with a pick or two and still have a roster of:

    Thomas/Rozier/Jackson
    Hayward/Brown
    George/Tatum
    McKay
    Horford

and use the minimum to fill out the bigs.
