Was coming in to post this as well. Should be required reading to have access to this thread again. Nothing ground breaking in here, but a really good look at our 'Tier Process' and what its better than just doing a regular board. Also loved how Rob is already so ahead in the game when is comes to scouting because he had to do this for his Agency and who they wanted to try and go after before joining the Lakers.

    Great Read!

Most notable quotes from Jesse IMO:

I already knew about the Zubac projection for them but still can't believe how lucky we got with him still on the board.

Haven't read yet. For those that have and will before I get a chance .... do you get the feeling that Ryan has been a big part of the eye test scouting in this area with our great pics last several years, whom we look to be losing, or is / has it been truthfully more about Jesse Buss becoming really astute in this area? With Rob's great background as well, are we losing much in the scouting area if Ryan leaves? (not that concerned about losing him as future GM with what I read about Rob) Maybe my impression is wrong, he hasn't had all that much to do with the scouting, according to the existing titles? We're going to be OK? I always assumed that was a great deal of what he now contributes from having learned so much from his dad over the years watching players together from the stands.

Ryan is never directly mentioned. Jesse describes his own evolving role, his relationship and affinity with Rob, and how much they all work to achieve a team consensus before making a pick.

Well he's got no balls ... taking the easy route. Draft Lonzo. :Fishwink: Help our offense to be all it can be for the next decade or more under Magic and Luke's vision.

Well, nice to know Fultz isn't a Big Baller.

Part of me loves it because it's interesting during the off-season.

Part of me can't wait until we no longer are worried about what kids are at the top of the draft.

oh.. I agree I love it and hope we can stash this thread somewhere when its done so that many years from now we can look back on this. Hopefully feeling good about what we discussed and that we made the right choice.

Absolutely, this love-hate relationship really takes a toll down the stretch here... it's like a bad accident, you just can't look away... at this point, we've analyzed these kids ad nauseam, so I'm more anxious to see which, if any, of the horrendous contracts we can dump.

It'd be funny years later once the players develop to really how well "our" scouting was.

But also, part of me thinks that any player that is willing to put in the work and plays for the Lakers will succeed better than they would elsewhere.

Okafor, for example, probably would have excelled more than he would in Philly. I know most of us were on his train, but it didn't pan out for him the way we were expecting him to. I think if Lonzo goes to another team, his impact wouldn't be the same as if he joined the Lakers straight on. There's a sort of pride some players feel when an organization like us chooses you and passes on you.

I love the lead up to the draft and all the reports, talk, debate, analysis, smokescreening, etc. It fills the space until Free Agency and Summer League. Gotta feed the need.

And THIS is why you've been hearing all this "who will they take" stuff.
