People who think any chance la doesnt take ball is purely bs have short term memory, we didn't hear anything of our interest in dlo till draft day from what i recall
I'm all the way with therealdeal here. I think Ball is the perfect pick to run our offense and contribute in a big way right off the back in Luke's system. I just didn't get my hopes up during the year as I wasn't convinced at all that we were going to be able to keep the pick and even when we did keep it I was shocked we moved up to the number 2 giving us a possible shot at Ball. I'm a Bruin and obviously biased in that regard but I love what he brought to UCLA. I think the "baggage" with his dad is overrated. At least his dad cares about him and was a hugely positive influence in helping his son realize his potential. Ball has such incredible instincts out there in the way he runs the show. I think he'd do wonders alongside Russell. Eventually I think we may want to get ourselves a 4 who can shoot long distance to go alongside them. In the meantime I look forward to seeing a dynamic backcourt like Ball and Russell on the floor. I also think Ball and Ingram would be great teammates as well. However, if the Lakers management feel they want to go a different way, so be it.
Who makes this? Is it Laker designed already pre-drafting him? If not Lakers design does that make you a BBB groupie already? Honest questions with hint of tweaking in the last .....
Why would LA care? If Boston takes Ball, we take Fultz and have arguably the best player in the draft.
You keep saying this, but literally no one believes you. So I'll stick to the facts. Ball's not regarded as the top pick, and he's not even regarded as the obvious #2 pick. If I can get George for him, I do it ASAP. Adding Lopez and George would make this team a .500 team even if the other guys didn't improve one iota - but they will.
Getting George 1st at the expense of losing Ball does not accomplish the guarantee or even hope of him himself being the reason for the Showtime part deux era style of play as getting Ball will. Which will then be attractive to PG.
I gotta say seeing Ben Simmons on the floor with a basketball brought visions of Magic himself with the kind of height, vision and extraordinary quality of his passes at a super young age. That kid is going to be something if he gets healthy. So what is Lonzo Ball's ceiling in that same regard in those areas of the game? The Magic Johnson Showtime skills? Is his best being Ben Simmons lite if Simmons is as good as we think he will be, or does Lonzo have other plusses in the seeing the floor and leading the break and hitting guys in their sweet spots in his favor? We need our own Ben Simmons to do Magic Johnson style of basketball.
If Ball is the difference between whether George comes here or not, our team is a mess, and we might as well burn it to the ground. Seriously.
Not my point. I think you don't throw away the guy who will guarantee the Lakers can play this way. George will want him here. Magic's not going to give him up. Someone else will go.
A) We don't need to be showtime. B) You're still suggesting that Lonzo Ball - a guy who isn't even in the NBA - is the guy who seals the deal with Paul George. This strikes me as absurd, given that he's not regarded as the best player in the draft. I hope you Cali folks are right - but I think you're being absurdly biased on Ball.
I don't know. Ball has the tools to be a good defender. Ball is also a much better shooter right now than Jason was coming out of college. That being said, people don't remember how good Jason Kidd was in his prime. People seem to remember the defender and 3-point shooter he was at the end of his career. Jason Kidd was freaking amazing. Outside of Magic, he was the best passer I ever saw. He hit teammates in their shooting pocket on almost every play and he seemingly never passed it harder than it needed to be, but never too soft where it wouldn't get there in time for the shooter to have all the time he needed. If Ball turns out to be Jason Kidd, we will be well on our way to being a championship squad. Kidd is a top 40 player all-time. Maybe top 30.
what bothers me about the ball talk (and i've been consistent on this) is the "sure thing" nature of it. as rodg indicated earlier, nobody outside of pauley pavilion is absolutely certain that ball is an nba game changer. i wouldn't give up jc/randle/2 for george, but replace randle with one of mozdeng, and i'm done. we have no idea what whichever 19 year old is picked second can do playing in this league, but we know george chews up and spits out the competition. i'll take it. all day.
No durn it all. I am saying one of our other valuable players rather than Lonzo will be the one or more that will have to go if real valuable has to go. How can anyone not see the Magic Johnson / Sydney Moncrief comparison for this choice Magic makes? You know that's how he's going to want it. Up tempo like GS and Luke wants to play. Call it Showtime or something else era but it's going to be the exciting way Magic, Luke, Kobe, Rob and Jeanie want to play.
