Not mad, the term she used was "jealous". She said there's going to be a lot of agents and GMs and Assistant GMs that look at Pelinka like, "why do YOU get the job? Just because you're Kobe's ex-agent?" But so what? You're going to get that no matter what. I think it was just something she threw out there. Also, she said Pelinka is a good guy that she's worked with in the past.

just knowing that potential FA signings won't be subject to mitch's stupid "see those 16 banners? see those retired numbers? that could be you one day" shtick while giving them a tour of the practice facility makes me very happy

I have to say I'm really liking what I'm hearing about this new GM. Everything I've seen from players around the league is that he knows the game'. He knows talent. He's obviously good at building relationships with his clients and that's key for an GM to have success. He's not the dull personality that Mitch was. Then you talk about Magic a guy who clearly looks like he has a vision for the Lakers. He's gonna bring leadership, excitement, a new direction, new voice in that front office, but also recognizing he's gonna need some help to bring this franchise back to glory. All of a sudden you get in that free agent room and you have two respected figures in Magic and Pelinka.

You realize he collects that over the life of the contract right? So your examples for Kobe it would be $700k a year over 2 and Harden would be $1mm a year for 4 yrs

Don't forget he has employees to pay as well along with the cost of running a business.

Rob Pelinka has an average annual NBA contract amount worth almost 127 million dollars. If he's able to get 4% on contracts, that's over 5 million alone. That's not to mention the net worth of his agency which was recently valued at 13.5 million dollars by Forbes.

This job is a pay cut. You can either choose to look at the facts or you can ignore them.

He'd have to divulge himself from the agency I would think in order to not have a conflict of interest. If he's the GM of the Lakers dealing with his own agency, isn't that a problem?

I think you are validating my comments.

I said he's likely to get $4-5mm per as GM

You need to factor employees and the cost of running a business into his annual commissions. Because he's not keeping all that commission.

Agents make real money on endorsements for their clients. Those Nike shoes and Coke contracts pay well. Much more than 4% NBA contracts.

Rob Pelinka was involved in a complex negotiation which led to both SFX resigning as the agency for Carlos Boozer and to Pelinka briefly resigning as his agent. Pelinka currently represents Boozer as his agent. The issue involved discrepancies on an unconfirmed handshake agreement between Boozer and the Cavaliers owner Gordon Gund. At the time, Boozer had a $700,000 option year remaining on his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Boozer had originally been signed to a two-year guaranteed contract for $989,000 with a team option for the third year. However, his market value was much higher than that after two seasons in the NBA. Supposedly, Cleveland general manager Jim Paxson agreed not to exercise the team’s option after Boozer promised to resign with the Cavs for a long term, six-year-$41 million contract. But once the team option expired, Boozer signed with the Utah Jazz for $68 million, an offer the Cavaliers would not match because they were over the NBA salary cap.Pelinka was attacked in the press for allowing his client to go to the highest bidder rather than forcing him to honor the unconfirmed handshake agreement. As a result, SFX dropped Boozer as a client, and Pelinka left the firm. A year later, after a short stint with another agent, Boozer re-hired Pelinka who has become President and CEO of his own sports agency, The Landmark Sports Agency, LLC.

Yes, a black man took a high level executive position, but didn't hire a black subordinate. Something is wrong here.

    /sarcasm

Where is Rev Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton when you really need them? The injustice here is overwhelmingly shameful. How desperate are "journalists" for content to choose to write stories like this? I won't even click it to support it.
