I agree with this. I like stocking picks, but we need to keep Nick now that Lou is gone IMO. Every good team needs a shooter that can get crazy hot, and I do believe we can resign him for a good price. I also wanted Nick to stay more than Lou because Nick is actually playing defense now, and can contribute on both ends of the floor. You need some vets out there that can actually contribute (unlike Deng).
Yeah, I can live with keeping Nick. No way we get a 1st for him or any player as good as him. He has repaired the relationship with Russ. He loves playing for Luke. He respects the heck out of Magic. He is still relatively young. Let's keep him as our bench designated scorer for the future.
Unload Deng and/or Moz without giving up anything crazy and I'd consider it a step in the right direction.
That's Mitch and Jim semi lasting legacy two albatross contracts we have to endure. Just refer to it as Pelinka's burden, if Rob can do something about those then he has earned his keep.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jobkk6j makes sense for all sides in my sleep deprived mind. T. Jones wants out, NO wants vets to win now, Phx gets out of a few contracts and stockpiles young talent. Big Jones fan and believer than Knight can still play like he did in Mil.
This is horrible. We give up Randle AND Nance Jr to get back a Clarkson twin and Terrence Jones? No thanks.
Re: Nick I hope you guys are willing to pay him 10+ million a year. I'm not really. We've been down the path of giving Nick too many years. I like him a lot, but I'm not confident he's staying here for cheap.
I'm not confident he stays here for cheap either nor am I willing to pay him that much. I've been in favor of trading Young. I think though, if the Lakers don't trade him, it's a sign that they are willing to try and re-sign him.
I'd say it's doable if we basically give JC away for free in the process Is giving JC up for nothing to get rid of one of these contracts worth it ?
Clarkson alone isn't enough to entice a team to take on Deng and Mozgov. Like the guy but he is the 5th best young talent on the team. Maybe 6th depending on your feelings between him and Nance. Plus Clarkson just signed a sizable 4 year contract himself this past summer, so attach him to Deng or Mozgov and that team is taking on a boatload on salary.
I'd say JC contract is a good one ... then if JC isn't enough , it would be Randle ... Even if I'm not high on him , I wouldn't do it
I didn't say it's a bad contract. I said it was sizable. 37 million the next 3 seasons. Deng and Moz are at 54 and 48 respectively. Like I said, boatload. It's incredibly unlikely any team is willing to take on that much salary for this type of combination. Reality is that Moz and Deng have toxic contracts and teams just aren't going to want them unless they are also dumping a toxic contract back or getting paid handsomely for their troubles. I like JC but he's not enough and Randle might not be either based on his season thus far and that he is due to hit free agency himself after next season. Really the only teams who might even consider taking on Moz or Deng if it means getting back a solid young talent are Dallas and Brooklyn, mostly because both suck and are lacking in talent in general.
