Maybe we can get someone to bite on Young for a couple late 2nds and an expiring contract...

Brewer could end up being one of the best defenders on this team. Hes not as bad as many are saying. Decent throw in. Now if Magic can dump Mosgov or deng on someone this offseason than he deserves the name "magic" more than ever.

Even if Brewer was an amazing defender, why would that matter? Our goal for this season is to suck as much as possible and get the kids playing time. If he's helping rack up Ws, that's not helping. If he sucks and is getting PT, that's not helping. If he rides the pine, he's a waste of $8M next year, and thus not helping.

The only way Brewer is 'decent' is if you think we couldn't better utilize $8M this off-season.

To be fair to JC, Lou is a crafty vet that has had years to perfect his game. But yeah, your main point is still a good one. I was hoping for the same sort of trade you were, young player with potential, not a cheaper Deng, but I guess those were Mitch deals. This is either because Magic is a rookie, it was the best out there, or hopefully because we have other moves in mind. Not likely on that last one, I know, but I'm trying hard to be positive before jumping to conclusions, very hard.

This trade also helps us tank and increases the chances of keeping the 2017 pick.

Lakers now have assets if they keep the top 3 pick to make a trade this summer.

This all hinges on that damn lottery now. If we don't get it, it puts a giant monkey wrench into the plans but if they get it, they have leverage for the first time since the Howard deal.

What is (in your opinion) the Lakers' primary goal this season?

I'm not sure about that. We'll have cap room as is, and we've struck out with lots of space in the past. I'm not opposed to having cap space, but if we haven't converted it into anything, I'd rather have the expiring contract for a run at a player next season, after we've (hopefully) improved.

Lou was clearly the best player this season. I agree with the sentiments above. This will give the tank more guidance.

Bad offensive player. If you can't read and interpret advanced metrics, that's okay; just don't pretend like you can. His 15.5 PER allowed at SF is 0.5 worse than Trevor Ariza's. His DBPM is better than six guys on Houston, and better than all but three guys on LA. He'll be an improvement defensively over our current guys, almost without question.

Except Galloway could opt out to become an expiring, and Tyreke Evans is expiring - and they just were part of a deal that landed Boogie.

Because there's such a thing as mentorship. If he's a good teammate and solid defender, he can lead by example. Brewer won't likely "rack up Ws" playing 15 minutes a night.

Would have preferred us helping an Eastern team improve. Wizards or Hornets would have been ideal.

Any pick in the first round holds value. This will also allow the younger guys to get more minutes since Lou won't be taking them. Also helps the tank process since Lou was a huge reason we were winning some games. Not a great trade, but it was a trade that needed to be done and I like it.

Was it Woj that mentioned the whole trade market value shifted downward due to the poor return the Kings got for Boogie?

Magic very well may have taken the best offer that would be available.
