U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he would defer to Defense Secretary James Mattis regarding the use of waterboarding as an intelligence-gathering tool, even though Trump said he still believes the practice works.

Trump said Mattis does not "necessarily believe" in waterboarding and other enhanced interrogation techniques, which many lawmakers and other rights groups denounce as torture.

"I don't necessarily agree, but I would tell you that he will override because I'm giving him that power," Trump said of Mattis during a joint press conference at the White House with visiting British Prime Minister Theresa May.

"I happen to feel that it does work. I've been open about that for a long period of time. But I am going with our leaders," Trump said.

President Donald Trump on Saturday put restrictions on the kind of lucrative lobbying gigs his White House aides and other administration officials can accept after they leave government.

Trump, a Republican businessman whose campaign was based in part on getting rid of Washington insiders, had pledged during last year's election campaign to "drain the swamp" of political practices that he said made politicians beholden to business interests.

On his executive order making good on that pledge, Trump said his appointees would agree to refrain from lobbying their own agency for five years after leaving, and would not lobby any government appointee for two years.

Trump's order also requires his officials to agree to a lifetime ban on working on behalf of foreign governments or foreign political parties.

Trump himself has come under pressure to distance himself from his business interests, and put his sons in charge of his company, which owns hotels, golf courses and other real estate around the world. Ethics watchdogs have said the arrangement does not prevent conflicts of interest.

Taxi drivers at JFK have gone on strike in protest of Trump temporary ban on people coming into the US. The taxi drivers will not pick up anyone from at JFK from 6 pm to 7 pm on Saturday.. That'll show them!

I don't understand the outrage. Governments #1 job is to protect its citizens. When a terrorist attack happens we all say, "we need to do something." He does something, temporary until the vetting is more stringent, and people are outraged.

In an executive memorandum signed by Trump on Saturday, the president also downgraded the status of the director of national intelligence and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff on the security council's principals committee. Both will now only attend meetings "where issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise are to be discussed."
