Also, if we choose superstars to join us, say in the next 2 years - I am choosing Paul George and deal with the logjam later.

Thank you for this. It's insane how fans, both Laker fans and NBA fans in general, can forget the talent of some players. Andrew Bynum was a Hall of Fame talent. His knees, however, weren't.

Bynum at his peak was the second best big man in the league behind Dwight. I don't see Zubac ever reaching that level. I'll be thrilled with him being a starting caliber center and anything beyond that is gravy.

Yes he did. jeezus Zu has stumps for calves and Nurkich's were even bigger. Sure glad we have at the least very decent big men ourselves this year. Don't look now but there are a lot of talented young 7 footers out there.

Bynum at his best was a candidate to be an all star. Hall of fame? Let's not get carried away here...

Zubac has a chance to be better than a starter, his feel for the game is very good. Bynum was without a doubt an excellent player, but Zubac already has shown moments of fluidity that Bynum rarely had, even at his best. Bynum was always mechanical and at times was plain awkward to watch. And probably most importantly, Zu is enthusiastic and is willing to learn. That might be the biggest advantage that he has over AB, and it will likely be the reason why he will be better in the long run.

    What are you talking about?

    What I said was this:

at his peak, before the injuries derailed his career, he was 20/12/2.5 or so with tremendous defense, both man and help.

That is HoF kind of numbers.

I was mostly replying to Kobe Bryant 8's mention of Bynum being a HOF talent. I agree 20/12/2.5 is HoF caliber, if only Bynum (or anyone else) were able to sustain those averages for maybe 6-7 years, at least 4... along with some other factors like playoff success, opponents defeated, etc. We all know injuries didn't let that happen. But Bynum never averaged those numbers, not even through 1 season. None of his monthly splits are that high either. I never thought Bynum was HoF calibre, even when he was a stud winning titles here.

He might have been a HoF if the injuries did not happen like Du wight could have been if had not been a coward

Hall of Fame talent and Hall of Fame careers are two different things. He was still so young when his body broke down. When he was healthy and on his game, we all saw how effortless it looked to him. He had the talent to be a generational big man in the NBA. He just never seemed to want that, nor did his body allow him the opportunity.

Agree to disagree. Even in a small sample size Bynum didn't put up "HoF" numbers. As far as the eye test goes, he did have moments where it looked effortless, most of his supporters don't remember how mechanical and "not-fluid" he looked, which was often. I distinctly remember thinking he doesn't even look comfortable running up and down the court. Like I said earlier, Zubac looks more natural than Drew. But who cares, just my opinion

Wrong. Bynum averaged 19ppg, 12rpg, 2blk in 2011-2012, his last season playing here in LA. He was an all-star that year, 2nd team all-nba.

Those are Robert Parish numbers. He's a HOF'er. If Bynum ever sustained multiple seasons putting up that kind of production, he would be too.

Back to Zu, I'd be absolutely thrilled if he could put up those kind of numbers for this team. If he can provide the kind of defense Bogut gives the Warriors for 20 min and do it for 35 min and provide more offense than Bogut could ever dream of doing, our future will be bright.

Haven't really paid attention to the thread except the last page of conversation of Bynum and being a HOF'er.

My opinion is now and was then Bynum at his best was the best big man in the game, period. Yes, even better than Dwight who had a great athletic ability and zero offensive game. Bynum based on talent alone would have dominated the game like pretty much all the great big men from the past. His problem was his body and his attitude. He had Shaqs attitude but not his durability. Its all moot because he couldn't stay on the damn court and had craptastic work ethic. In the end, he had the talent not the drive.

I don't recall hearing he had a bad work ethic.

I know bowling is dangerous though.

He had a great awareness of banks being in every city and how much quicker it was to get in and out of stores and restaurants when he parked in handicapped spots.
