6 days and no response. At least not compared to Hurricane Katrina when Bush was blamed for waiting 2 or 3 days.

Why is the media ignoring this? Why isn't MTV running 24 hour coverage like last time? Where is Kanye????

From a friend I was in the Air Force with:
Talk about a picture worth a thousand words from the #LouisianaFlood. This is C bag Center in Baton Rouge which houses thousands of people with flooded homes. Thousands bedding with their pets. If you wonder why I keep posting these pictures, we need an army of volunteers. In the governor's press conference today, they explained they need organizations that can send large groups. Like faith-based groups. They appreciate the locals coming in, but this is a Katrina-type disaster and we need masses of volunteers. Most did not have flood insurance because they were not in a flood zone.

    Oh my Lord.

I literally had no idea it was this bad. It's barely been talked about at all on any media that I frequent.

The deliberate lack of coverage is almost as bad as the flood itself. My heart goes out to those poor people.

That's crazy. Had no idea this was even going on. I assume because our region have our own type of natural disaster with all the wildfires going on. Like a yin yang going on with drought and fires here in West region and rainy flooding towards the east. I think most people in Louisiana or at least the southern half should either move to different area not so prone to flooding or invest into houses actually meant for being on water because how the world is shaping up to be, those major flooding will happen more frequently to the point when there just isn't going to be dry land anymore. If only we can give them a lil bit of our drought and they give us some of that flooding. Would make things so much better.

My god! I had no idea it was that bad. I thought it was just a few isolated areas that were severe, but most of Louisiana was fine.

I hope they get aid quickly... or at least quickly from this day since they should have gotten it a long time ago.

Rumor is Obama's vacation is over and he's heading to Louisiana on Tuesday.

Such a shame.... hope they all get the help they need. Obama is seriously held to a double standard... Bush was 2-3 days late, Obama is a week late... but that's just petty finger pointing. Hoepfully they get all the aid they need.

It's criminal the sort of lack of attacking Obama gets.

I think there's a legitimate fear of attacking Obama as a President. People don't want the social backlash that would come from it, but holy crap he's done a horrible job. Awful.

Naw, I'm a critic of Obama and what he's done while in office, but this time he didn't do anything wrong. In fact he's doing the right thing in handling the Louisiana flooding from a distance.

The governor of Louisiana said this:

"Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards is defending the Obama administration's response to the severe flooding in his state.

President Barack Obama has received criticism for staying on vacation rather than traveling to Louisiana to see the damage first-hand.

But Edwards said Thursday that he's spoken with the White House daily and has received quick responses for each request he's made to the administration. He noted that FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate visited the state Tuesday and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was in-state Thursday.

Edwards said he is "not complaining in any way about our federal partnership."

He added that while the President can visit whenever he'd like, he'd prefer him to wait "a week or two" because such visits require local police and first responders to help block roads and provide security.

Both Obama and Edwards are Democrats."

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/latest-evacuation-urged-louisiana-community-41478191

And copied from a friends timeline on FB:

    "Let me explain something here.

I stood on the roof of Methodist Hospital 11 years ago, waiting for helicopters to land to rescue myself and my coworkers after a week of hell after Hurricane Katrina. I watched as the Coast Guard were basket lifting people out of the surrounding areas in New Orleans East. Suddenly, all of that stopped.

We were told that the New Orleans airspace was now closed to ALL FLYING MACHINES because then President Bush was in the air, surveying damage to New Orleans. That meant no more ongoing rescues, no drops of food and water, etc.

There is a REASON our Governor Edwards did NOT want Obama (or any other Washington politician) to visit flood affected areas. You do realize that EVERY police officer and public official would have to drop relief efforts to make sure the President was protected. Roads would have to be shut down and resources halted, for a visit.

I remember how much I wanted to get off of that God-forsaken roof 11 years ago and couldn't. I would NOT want to be a flood victim and have to be put "on hold" for a politician or even our President to visit. What he can see first hand, he can see via satellite or any other way.

    Let's remember the victims here.

This isn't just about politics. Trump didn't need to be in BR today, and neither does Obama or Hillary. We need the government to provide resources and money, not a man or woman in a suit, flapping their gums and having pictures snapped.

^^^ then why was it imperative that Bush be there during Katrina? My outrage is the media response.

    Bush: waited too long.
Obama: doesn't need to be here.
Bush: It's been 2 days and no help
Obama: it's been a week and the mainstream media hasn't even touched it
Bush: doesn't care about black people
    Obama: another pass

This. I think the reality is that covering a disaster zone like this is extraordinarily difficult. The media couldn't wait to bash the f*** out of Bush and turn him into a quasi-racist monster who didn't want to help dying people. Now the boot is on the other foot, and it's okay? I don't buy that at all. Either both did fine or both failed, but this is the definition of a double-standard.

I'm not making a statement about the media, they're dog s*** as usual, just that Obama is not handling this wrong apparently if the Governor requested that he not come for a while.

Someone in the Louisiana legislature (senator or Congressman??) said Trump should not come too. Afterwards he said it was very productive and he was afraid it was a photo-op, but that he brought a semi full of supplies and it was worthwhile.

I think that's the spin after the fact, but I'm curious if that's how that really went down.

I agree with Sirron. The governor kinda has to put that out there to save face for Obama. Toe the party line. Right before the 2012 election Obama was most definitely in New Jersey, arm in arm with Christie for photo ops after hurricane.
