    Hey everyone,

I wanted to post this here so I can get as many votes and comments as possible.

I'm thinking about creating a trade and sales section for LB where you can all trade or sell Lakers and NBA related merchandise to each other in a style similar to Craig's List.

Once a transaction is completed, each member would be able to make comments regarding how a seller/trader performed, and rate them. LB staff however, would not resolve any disputes or issues with any transaction in this area of the forum for legal reasons. Staff would only moderate as we would in any other section of the forum. Any issues with transactions would be between the two parties involved. We would simply allow a section of LB for two grown adults to come to an agreement on sales and trade of Lakers/NBA merchandise.

I want to get as many opinions as possible before I decide whether to do this or not, because I don't want to waste money on purchasing this software if members won't be using it.

Please let me know your thoughts, and if YOU personally would use it.

Love the idea. Like other forums I've been on, on the merchandise you're selling or trading, you can hand write the date&your username in the picture background to ensure us the person isn't taking a picture from the Internet.

I WANT JERSEYS! Any big dogs in the house? I got a white Lamar Odom jersey that's huuuuuuge on me lol.

I'd definitely be interested in buying Laker memorabilia and would probably list some items that, for the right price, be willing to part with.

I'd consider using it. There would need to be a couple guidelines to hopefully prevent scamming though.

I said no simply because I'd opt to use Craigslist, eBay or something even for memorabilia or the like, just more to choose from as far as sellers. But I don't have any problem with the site having the section, I just personally wouldn't use it.

To prevent scamming, it would probably be wise to restrict members with less than x amount of posts from selling or trading.

I like the entrepreneurial mindset and that you're thinking about ways to expand. However I'd worry about expanding the site into that kind of realm.

You might attract the wrong people to this site. Although it says administration won't get involved in disputes there will inevitably be disputes. Members might dispute each other on sales/scams and the bickering could migrate into conversations over in Lakers Discussion dragging down the quality of the site.

There are are also existing marketplace behemoths where deals are more secure, inventory is diverse, and membership base is huge. I just think from a competitive standpoint this website wouldn't generate a reasonable enough amount of traffic for it to be worth the investment on your end.

As of now I wouldn't use it but if it happens I'd take a look and might use it if something rare was available from a poster I trusted.

So it would function like Craigslist but without the murders, right?

Not a big collector of stuff, so personally not a lot of value for me. I do see some potential pitfalls with this that might not be worth the upside. The potential for divide is much greater than any unifying effect. If it's a revenue generator, it might be good to set up a dedicated site for this that charges fees and regulates. If there is no payoff, I don't know that there is a reason to take on the potential headache.

Personally, if I was selling something, I'd probably list it on ebay and post the link in a section like that here. That way, all parties are protected in case the quality, size, condition, etc isn't as described. Could be issues of shipping, delivery, and more. If it's not something that people want to put up for random bid, you can use the "Buy it Now" option to immediately sell at the agreed upon price.

Several ways to do this without putting the site itself or its member relations potentially at risk for ill feelings.

To be clear, I wouldn't be making a dime on this, or charge any fees for profit if we do this. Any fee associated would be for a money transfer company like PayPal and the like.

My goal is to make LB a one stop destination for all things Lakers, and a sales/trade section would simply be another aspect of that.

But you all bring up some good points and suggestions. Please keep them coming. I'm listening and considering every thought.

This is kind of how I went about thinking of this feature and why I voted No. Great idea and I love that you want to keep developing this site. It's really exciting to know that. However, I feel like this money could be used for something better down the road. On what exactly, I don't know and I wish I could provide some ideas, but I'm not in this space enough to know what new things are coming out for forums.

I also think @Chillbongo brings a great point and not wanting this forum to turn into something else which is attracting the wrong people who come from all over spamming or advertising there stuff (abusing the feature) instead of coming here to bring great opinions and content like the way we have it now. @sirronstuff point of putting his stuff on ebay and putting a link here or in his signature make a ton more sense to me.

The internet and other sites out there are great for this kind of stuff already. We should keep doing what we already do great and find ways to expand on that, which is debating Lakers news, topics, providing content whether that be artwork, designs, videos, statistics, evaluations, etc....

To close my argument, I just think considering the investment, the pros and cons, the kind of traffic we might get (good/bad), and the return factor...... It just doesn't seem worth the risk.

Thank You @Barnstable for letting us, the community, give our opinions on this possible new addition before pulling the trigger. I count ourselves very lucky that 1) We have staff and someone willing to invest in trying to better this already great site and 2) You want our opinions on it when you could have made the decision yourself. It sound like an obvious thing to get. Check with others, but I can't think of a Sports Forum that does this.

I personally like the idea and I think it makes sense for Laker fans to be able to find good deals on what they want to have. People do not have to click on something they don't want and if it is not too intrusive, thats a perfectly fine section for those who want.

I assume though, this will mostly be a US only thing in terms of shipping, so I'm probably not able to do it myself.

My son buys and sells stuff all the time. It's his way of making $$. He ships overseas all the time.

PayPal is great at settling disputes. I'd recommend anyone buying or selling to utilize them. Just another layer of protection.
