...I do like Huertas' passing and unselfishness but he is a liability on the floor because he can't hit the side of a barn with his shot. At least with Calderon, he has similar abilities and you can't lay off him. The two second rounders that came with him are nice too.

The fact he's a career 40% 3pt shooter alone makes this a no brainer. Zero risk move with assets coming back.

Ha not bad...he has same weaknes as huertas but in offensive areas he is still way ahead of him, plus i think DR could learn few things from him so i am totaly fine with trade...

Clarkson at 4/50 is one of the best values this summer hands down.

I don't like this kind of passive aggressive stuff LT. You can just ask me directly if I'm still interested in firing him. :)

Exactly. He brings all the positives and negatives of Huertas, but elite three point shooting so it's automatically an upgrade. Throw in an expiring contract and one or two picks (depending on who has this right) and this was a terrific move.

I'd guess there's 15 or more people here that want Jim and Mitch both gone. Jim yes, Mitch no for now is my opinion. I've been reading your comments more lately with you backing away from that, if we could bump him into position of more authority while having Jimmy out of there and promoting Ryan. I have "liked" your comments. I like you.

This was a great move by Mitch and while yes I've been saying something needs to be done, I hope people know it's not something personal against Mitch. I like him. He's done a ton of great things and some bad things, but mostly very good. The main reason I bring up letting Mitch go is because I believe that Jeanie is going to do it whether we like it or not because Mitch and Jim have been handling this without her. She's begged for more communication and they just don't want to give it to her. Then she takes shots at them and demands more communication, well what does she expect? They close her out even more. I think we're going to have to accept that there's a good chance Jeanie gives him the boot just by association so I'm trying to prepare for that.

This move though was a good one to renew faith in Mitch for those that think he's not a good GM. I think he is good at his job behind a desk, but boy either he's been hanging out with Jim too much or Mitch just doesn't have a good feel for people. Could be both. It really seems like he thought guys would come here without behind the scenes prompting just because we're the Lakers and that's who it's worked in the past.

I like what he's done this summer for our rebuild though. As down as I am on our FO in general, I'm very high on the product we've put together and we still have room for one more player.

I've said in a few threads now, Jim is gone at the end of this season barring a miracle trade. This isn't a playoff team. Jim hasn't delivered on what he promised, and regardless of how realistic it ever was, and how much it sucked that "basketball reasons" screwed up his plans, the fact is he said he will step down and he's going to be held to it.

I have no problem with Mitch per se, and this is just another example of how he's a solid and competent, if not a flashy GM. He's been great at finding bargain signings, shrewd trades, and drafting. This Calderon signing falls right in there along with moves such as trading Brian Cook for Trevor Ariza, the Jeremy Lin signing, picking up Ron Artest when Ariza's agent squeezed us too hard, etc.

He may not have the charisma or salesmanship to land the big fish. But I think his strengths and the need for us to appear organized and not chaotic necessitate Mitch being kept on for at least another year after Jim steps down. I don't think we should enter one of the most important FA summers of recent years without him on board. I do think that Jim NOT being there will improve our attractiveness.

That's the knock I think and I think it's pretty clear at this point. He just doesn't have the personality for that. If you want to promote Ryan West this summer to Assistant GM and then have Mitch teach him the ropes on trades while Ryan works with Magic to bring in FAs then I'm all ears. I would be okay with Ryan getting literally the same treatment Mitch got which was partial duties for 14 years while Ryan learns the craft.

At this point though I think it's clear we're not going to land big FAs with the pitch team we have. They're just not capable of doing it. Take Jim out, insert Ryan West and Magic Johnson and I think our pitch changes dramatically. I think our pitch becomes almost instantly buyable stock.
