I think he's going to really excel at times in Walton's offense. Won't defend a lick, but he'll space the floor well and move the ball which are two musts. Same response in the other thread. Really though I love this fit. I'm sure Luke is really happy with this.
He's a fantastic fit. Our second unit is crazy improved: Calderon/Williams/Ingram/Nance/Black - that's better than our starters this past season.
Calderon hit 84 threes last year, at 41.4%. Russell hit 130. Clarkson hit 111. Lou hit 110. And we added Russell. Did we just become a good three point shooting team?
With Calderon now in the fold the Lakers actually look like an NBA team again. It's exciting. Russell/Calderon Clarkson/Lou Deng/Ingram Randle/Nance Jr. Mozgov/Black Sure the Lakers have overpaid, but they had too. They needed to add veterans. We saw what a disaster last season was when we just didn't have enough veteran leaders on the team. We added three solid veterans this offseason which is really exactly what I wanted.
Great move. Haven't read yet whether we got any other assets (I hope so) or whether we had to give up anything else (hopefully not). But regardless, Calderon alone on an expiring deal is awesome for us. He's a true vet and it's so much easier getting excited about him as a back-up PG as opposed to some of the no-name guys being floated around as potential pick-ups. On top of that, I've wanted a few more dead-eye three point shooters on the squad and Calderon fills that. NOW, I'm content with cutting Swaggy and calling it an off-season.
Or maybe Brooklyn was close to getting him and we DID swoop in and tell Chicago we'd be willing to take Calderon without them having to include a pick.
solid move provides for an excellent backup option behind d-russ deng AND calderon. man, imagine if this was 2007
Whether or not we get a pick, when we need a back-up PG AND more veteran leadership, Calderon on a 1 year/$8 million deal is significantly better than throwing long term money on a guy like Galloway.
