If he gives his assurance that he he'll sign for 5 years, you do what it takes to get him within reason. If he cannot assure you that he'll be here for 5 years and he wants to explore his option during free agency, we can wait.

The ONLY way I'd trade for Westbrook is if he makes it public that he wants to be a Laker. OKC would be forced to trade and Mitch would pull out his wand. Clarkson, Zubac, and future picks.

That's isn't happening. Presti is a very shrewd GM. However, I think both sides would come together and create a deal that helps both franchises.

Agreed. Also we can't trade Jordan until December and I'm starting to wonder if Presti makes it that long. He might try to get something done before the season even starts.

Yeah it involves russell, ingram and another future 1st...mitch/jim gave up 2 picks for 40yr old nash, what do you think they'll give up for westbrook? Look at what presti just robbed orl of with the ibaka trade....anyone thinking okc will give up wb on the cheap is living in 2k land with the gm override off lol

I don't know what a deal looks like involves Russell Westbrook. I'll say this much, though; I'm not giving up Ingram AND Russell in any trade package. He can have 1 of them, though. We can go from there; if not, see you in 2017, Westbrook.

I'm not giving up Brandon or DAR. OKC can have a combo of other players, but no way they get a young stud. They're not in a position of power.

Westbrook knows what he is going to do. I believe he will be a Laker or a Clipper next year in free agency.

No Warrior can win MVP now right? They don't judge by the 80's rules anymore because LeBron. They now have the last 3 MVP winners on the same team. I think MVP is gonna go back to LeBron or Westbrook, or a surprise candidate.

Presti is a good borderline great gm...i think the only trade that wasnt a 100% win was harden but then they did get Adams out of it.....given how desperate jim could be to save his head, prepare to be bent over xtra hard

Agreed. Mitch and Presti are both brilliant GM's, but they are the ones that are desperate. There's no need to give them any of our top 3 assets. Clarkson and fillers, or no deal.

In regards to Westbrook -- he's not signing an extension until after the season. OKC needs to get something for him. How do they accomplish that with a team that has no guarantee? Lowball offer. It's that or wait until the end of the season, watch him leave, and the firings commence. That's just the way it works.

What do the Lakers need to do to get him? Make sure we have the $$$ to give him a max, have the players developed he wants to play with, a system he can thrive in, a city he loves (that's a definite check mark for us) and hopefully we're on the verge of being a playoff team.

I surely hope we are not trading for Westbrook. Besides all the cons discussed, Westbrook just does not fit with Luke's style of offense. It would upend our sound rebuild progress and make our future outlook worse.

With Luke though, it's "system fits the players", not the other way around... ;)

If we want Westbrook in Free Agency, that means you're going to have to build a contender outright. Not just a playoff team, a solid contender.

That means at the very least, one superstar. Whether it's Paul George or DMC, that's the only way imo.

Something like Randle + Mosgov for Cousins.
Then Russell + Zubac for George.

But that's banking on the fact that he will even consider it.

Westbrook+George+Cousins though would be pretty dirty.
