If Westbrook chooses not to extend his contract this summer, multiple league executives told ESPN they believe the Thunder will consider fielding trade offers for Westbrook.

In the wake of Durant's departure, however, the Thunder were planning to take some time before making roster decisions.

Absolutely they've got to. Also, if Russell is serious about leaving, he should politely ask to leave and then sign an extension. The franchise could keep him against his will sure, but he'd also substantially improve their bargaining position.

Any who, I've derailed this thread enough. We can (and I'm sure will) revisit this at the deadline when things are clearer.

It might not make it until the deadline. Presti might want too act now if Westbrook doesn't want too extend. GT is also mentioning Boston as a possible trade destination.

Why would Westbrook come to our team and help us win 50 games. When he can go to a team that is already there without his help? Players don't want to work that hard to win championships. I think that's been pretty evident from the past 5 years or so.

They just aren't cut from the same cloth of players before like Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kobe, etc.

What i'm saying is, between the Lakers and OKC, Westbrook would probably be like, "**** these options, i'm going to CLE because they have LBJ, Irving, and Love."

No way I'd trade our assets for a 1 year rental of RW. If he has a 10% chance of signing with us next summer, trading assets for him for his bird rights is an even more illogical move.

If we don't think we can get him outright next summer, we randomly trade assets for him for one season and then he walks anyways, bird rights and all? That doesn't make much sense.

Also, who's going to take the chance on Westbrook given the fact that he could leave you next summer without extending; I don't see Westbrook committing himself anywhere without exploring free agency next summer.

Just like that. Thunder is no longer a title contender. Might even start completely over. Then again. Westbrook is a hell of a player and might just elevate to legendary status. Will see what happens. And another thing. In an even it presents itself, would u guys trade D'Angelo and Clarkson and draft picks for Westbrook? I would seriously consider that

We wouldn't want to beat any offer they throw out probably centered around that Brooklyn pick. I'm in no rush for it. If OKC pulls the trigger quickly, I'm not sure I want to get into the bidding war.

Not to mention as everyone else has, getting RW means winning now. Just looking at our young guys we're 4-5 years from contending. Getting RW puts win now pressure. Except we ain't winning nothing with GSW stacked. Then there's Bron in the East.

No, let's do this organically and get ready to compete when LeBron/Warriors are on their decline. We're taking the long road fellas. It's ok. About time we rebuild instead of reloading.

Dwight, from all accounts 3 years ago through his agent (Dan Fegan at the time) has given us assurance he would re-sign with us during the summer. We all know how that turned out. I know we want a superstar, and I do badly, but without him signing on the dotted line that he's going to be here for the next 5 years, I have to pass, unfortunately.

They have 2 Brooklyn first round picks, Bradley, Crawford, Thomas, Brown, etc. Plus, they just signed Horford, They don't have to gut their team to remain competitive.

Forget about Westbrook, we have JC,Westbrook lite and now Ingram, Durant lite. We will also hold on to our Harden lite Russell. See the parallels?

I'm cool with this as long as we all realize what we're saying. We're saying not competing for a title likely until 2020, right? I'm cool with it because I like all our young guys, but I just want to make sure everyone realizes that this is going to be a long and times very painful process.

Yeah all those pieces are pretty... unexciting but the two 1sts are insanely attractive to a rebuilding strategy.

Oh yikes. I guess he could be a decent Speights replacement.
