Without considering how and who we distribute our remaining cap space and any trades that could potentially come up through the season.

have people not learned about FA yet? how many top tier FAs not named lebron james have changed teams in the past...two decades? shaq to la?

this just isn't how things are done. miami messed with everyone's mind, and then dwight howard's d****** poured a little grain alcohol on the smoldering fire. this year, only horford will switch teams...unless durant jumps...to another 60-win team.

stop planning for FA. if need be, you can dump salaries when the time comes. hell, anyone could dump anyone right now. the lakers next superstar better be named clarkson, randle, russell, or ingram. or one of those guys need to be traded for him.

build a team for next year; think about the following year after that. i like that the lakers actually tried to sign guys instead of hemming and hawing about westbrook s***ting on them next year.

...though bismack and marvin sounds better to me than timo and deng...but whatever...it's not hibbert or lin.

You tell me ONE of those guys you listed are coming to LA next season if we win 30 games? That's why I think 2018 is the pivotal season. Gives the kids one season to get it together and make a playoff push the following year.

Bismack is a bargain. Marvin deliberately took less money to stay on Charlotte. The Lee deal was also nice.

i'm not as crazy about lee--wherever he goes, they like him, but don't care too much if he stays.

but biyombo and williams at lower price points than mozgov and deng...it's going to be fodder for discussion.

and for the record, i was on the williams train from the beginning.

I think Mozgov and Deng getting those long, guaranteed deals was both the market and our crappy reception on the FA market. We had to overpay by a little bit annually and likely guarantee that last year to make sure we could get those guys to come to a 17 win team.

I know. :) I like Williams. He just happen to give Charlotte a very team friendly deal. Kind of like JC did with us.

Anyway, irrespective of the contract length and $$$ , this was the best summer we had from a personnel standpoint in awhile, IMO.

God help us all if they do not stay healthy. If you think we are a laughing stock now, if Mosgov or Deng turn out to be Luke Walton, the player, the flood gates will open.

It's not sexy, but we needed guys who were willing to play in our system of developing our young talent too.

It is what it is, they professionals who can show the way for our kids.

I don't think we're necessarily a laughing stock among people who are knowledgeable. If anything smart people are saying "finally the Lakers are making the right moves".

I think we have at least an outside shot at Westbrook. This is his home. If Durant leaves OKC I think we have more than a decent shot. If the kids make the progress we think they will we will become an option for him.

Durant needs to leave to guarantee a shot. However, even if Durant stays, are the Thunders going to pay close to 400 million for 2 players?

Wondering if we're going to add a couple more players.

Have been linked to Nick Minnerath (D-leaguer), we invited JaBari to play on the summer team, and then there are the few players I mentioned a few pages back that would seem to be the kind of player we're looking for: vets, coaching staff has experience with them, and wouldn't need a starting gig. I'm including Aaron Brooks and JJ Hickson.

    Russell/Brooks/Huertas
    Clarkson/Williams/J.Brown
    Deng/Ingram/A.Brown
    Randle/Nance/Black
    Mozgov/Hickson/Zubac

We'd be much better than last season, both in terms of starters and backups.

I have never wanted to be wrong more in my life. But I have been watching NBA basketball for 26 years and it's rare when your first instinct about basketball players are wrong. When Gasol got traded to LA, we knew without a doubt he was a difference maker. When Artest was signed, we knew he was a difference maker. The only surprises were those who we didnt invest a lot in and they played above what they were worth, IE Ariza, Shannon Brown, in recent memory.

These salaries are going to cause major problems in a year when the CBA fight starts. Owners will blame the players for an inflated market and Michele Roberts is not one of those people who will bow down. She is a civil rights minded type of person. She will burn the city down before showing any compromise.

League needs to eliminate the cap and allow the market to truly dictate the market. In return, non-guaranteed contracts. Paying Mike Conley 30 million a year is about as dumb a move for a team in Memphis as I have ever seen. Who the hell goes to Memphis to watch Mike Conley play because he is Mike Conley?
