Now I understand why Magic wanted to make clear he had no affiliation with this FO anymore.

Hopefully JC doesn't sign anything like that, but to be honest who cares? We're not signing anyone anyway. His contract gets us another 13 million. We'd still technically have two max slots or so open. Whatever... It doesn't matter anymore.

I just hate that I'm hearing vaguely positive things about Philly, Brooklyn, and the rest of the crap teams but we are still in the doldrums. What the hell is that about?

No there's nothing really tricky. The Lakers will match no matter what happens. We're not signing anyone significant anyway, so seriously who cares?

Amick wasting his effort typing those tweets. Lakers would match. Clarkson will be back. *yawn*

Clarkson will do what is best for himself. That's life... Open up options for a veteran shooting guard or an up and coming one. I would hate to see him go however... It is sad if we end up losing one of ours while we settle for scraps.

    No I meant impact players.

We can probably overpay and convince role players to come. I mean we have so much cash someone is bound to take it, but we're talking the Evan Turners and the Derrick Williamses of the world. We're not talking about the Whitesides or the Horfords.

Yeah it is pretty depressing at this point. We'll probably just do what we did last season. Get two solid, but not great free agents like Lou and Bass that are backups and then make a trade for a scrap heap guy to fill the void at center. Not really anything to get excited about.

We won 17 games last season. SEVENTEEN!

Did people around here honestly think we'd have free agents lining up begging to take our money? We're going to have to show something on the court to land premium free agents. PERIOD.

And truly, what's the worst-case scenario here? We don't land any (solid) gambles with max money? That's ok. We already hugely upgraded our coaching and landed an elite prospect in the draft. More minutes for the youngsters isn't the end of the world.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to land some of these guys, but it's a 2-way street, and I can't blame free agents for not wanting to take on a rebuild when almost every NBA team has cap room. There are a ton of choices out there. If our young guys keep developing, we'll have free agents heading our way in coming years. In today's world, market size is less important than ever. We're going to have to improve our attractiveness as a free agency destination on the court. The good news is, that's almost a certainty.

Lastly, how about we actually let this thing play out. We could still and some quality pieces, even if they're not one of the ever-elusive "whales" on the market.

Pretty much. I was hoping we'd get something bigger and that free agents would like to fill this void where they can have 2 max free agents and a friend worth about 10 million. Turns out nobody is interested at all and that's a bummer. Oh well.

Hopefully we can get a smaller name wrapped up early in the process. To hell with everyone else.

I am 100% with you... but it's still rather souring that we can't even get meetings with some of these guys. The botched meeting with LaMarcus coupled with 17 wins I think is what did us in. Management still needs to face the music though sooner or later. If they don't help this team out this summer, s*** will hit the fan.

    I get everyone's angst. I truly do.

I just don't think the perception of our front office's (namely Jim's) ineptitude is aligned with reality. Unfortunately, at what point does that perception become the more important factor? I mean, whether it's actually true or not, if we're to the point where agents are steering their clients away from us because they THINK our front office is incompetent, then it's probably time to start thinking about a change, whether it's fair to Jim or not.

No matter what happens, Mitch has been a steady positive force in our front office for decades. If Jim has to step down for whomever, I sincerely hope it doesn't mean Mitch is out the door as well.
