I think that's pretty obvious what's coming here if anyone's paying attention.... especially if Whiteside signs up. Yeah whoever said it above .... 70 year old Dirk. And we all like Dirk.

We're all biased, but even if I wasn't a Lakers fan I don't see why Whiteside would go to the Mavericks. Seriously what do they have to offer? An aging Dirk, no state income tax and that's it? That team isn't that good. Even if Whiteside is aboard they're probably still a first round exit. They have no bench, no point guard, no athleticism, no young talent. They have a great coach that's pretty much it.

Oh well we still have a great young core, we still have Luke, this free agent class isn't all that attractive after all. I thought it might, but guys like DeRozan and Horford aren't coming. Neither is Durant and apparently not Whiteside. I'll admit I was wrong I thought we should at least be able to get Whiteside.

Well we still have a bright future, we will still have cap space next summer when we should be a lot more attractive. Think we should just do the Portland plan. Fill out the roster with some veterans and some young pieces that fit the roster and the young core and see what happens.

Rick Carlisle had Rondo as a problem child and now could have Whiteside. We would see if he learned anything.

Nothing is official yet though... Be really funny if another team like ourselves gets Whiteside to change his mind (DeAndre them again).

I don't know if I'm the happiest, but I don't think anyone could be happier. :D So glad Kelly is finally gone, I'll celebrate when I hear Sacre is too. Thrilled we want to keep Black though. Hoped for someone better at backup than Huertas, but not opposed to keeping him at all.

Definitely hoping for the best but really starting to expect the worst. Maybe I'm just reading too deeply into all the conflicting BS floating around out there but why haven't we heard ONE positive development concerning the Lakers in the last 24-hours? smh

Maybe we're just playing our cards close to our chest? Woj is always salty that he doesn't seem to get inside scoops from the Lakers organization. Maybe he's hearing Riley and Cuban express confidence in getting Whiteside and hearing nothing from our end, so he's assuming the worst and putting this out there to spite us.

Best I can hope for, other than the chance that Luke is just super charming and convinces Whiteside anyways.

NBA free agency is so freaking fun, man! All the twists & turns!

Don't forget, everyone: After landing Ingram & firing Byron/hiring Luke, we're playing with house money the rest of this offseason.

Good news. Hell Luke could even offer him time in the back yard teepee at his place whenever Demar is in the mood. Like the arrangement Pops had with Jerry Garcia back in the day.

Stolen from Lakers fan "rejectx" at r/NBA:

"Free agents are like sex; you think you are getting some, but eventually you end up on the internet watching at other people have it."

Found it fitting. Laughter IS the best medicine.

I don't want to belabor this point because who really knows, right? Not me, that's for sure. But here's why I can see someone like Whiteside choosing Dallas over the Lakers:

First, Whiteside has given every indication he wants max money more than he wants to win. So, the fact that Texas has no state income tax is probably more of a factor than the Maverick's lack of championship prospects. Add to that the fact that players LOVE playing for Cuban, who is widely considered to be one of the best current owners in the NBA and someone who takes real good care of his guys. Also add in the fact that Cuban has tons of personality and is no doubt great in a room, contrasted with Jim and Mitch who both have reputations for being cold and aloof (to say nothing of Jim's reputation as a meek-minded loser). Put that all together and I can see why someone who doesn't care about winning and is out for a big payday would choose Mavs over Lakers.

Of course, Whiteside might be all about coming to LA, being a big star, playing in front of Jack Nicholson every night and living the life. And maybe he values winning more than I realize. But if you're looking for an answer to the question of why someone like Whiteside could be persuaded to go Mavs over Lakers, there you go.

I hear that Wade may be leaving Miami. Would it make sense for us to make a play for him? Obviously it would be a lot of money for someone past their prime, but a 3 guard rotation of Wade, Russel and Clarkson sounds intriguing and Wade knows how to win.

I'd rather have Demar Derozan though since he's much younger.
