As the old saying goes, "In life, timing is everything". The contract numbers that will be doled out to these average and marginal players is shocking. Maxing out Clarkson does not seem to be a bad deal, he has as much upside as anybody else in this league. Giving Black some numbers looks fine too, he hustles more that any other big man in the league.

Oh damn, could this be the year Sacre gets $5MM-$10MM per year?

I brought this up prior pages....are we really this desperate to max out a guy with bad knees? I don't want a max batum either but at least he doesn't have injury concerns. If im mgmt im offering 18mill per for 4yrs with tm opt for yr 4 to parson, if he balks then get the stepping

That doesn't mean a deal is happening. They could just be meeting.

Did someone say Bazemore Is about the same as Parsons?

Parsons better fg%, 3pt%, points, assists, PER, VORP.

Bazemore better rebounder and ft% (well, last year, at least), better defensively last season. Parsons was better the year prior. They are actually really close.

We're not going to throw max at Parsons, no way, not with that injury history.

I'll start at $14 and draw the line at $17 with a 1+1 team option.

Otherwise, there are plenty of other options at that price range like Bazemore.

I know Dallas has a good owner, good coach & seems to be a decent city, but I really think all things considered, we're the more desirable destination. Whiteside would fit really well with Portland, but from the impression I get of him, a market like LA matters to him. Could tip the scales in our favor.

Bottom line: It'd be much easier for me to swallow if he goes to the Blazers rather than the mediocre Mavs to play with 72-year old Dirk and...who else, exactly?

If Parsons can be healthy, having him and Ingram shooting trey's, wow.

I think the Lakers have an excellent shot at Whiteside. They can offer the max deal, he'll be our best player something he wouldn't be in Portland, Miami, or even Dallas, obviously it's Los Angeles, Luke I'm sure will discuss with him how he plans to use him and he'll get his post touches and be the center piece on defense. Just makes too much sense imo. I think we get him.

The appropriate music is John Williams score, not Hans Zimmer's.

Me! I said it! Parsons is definitely more efficient, but basically all their other stats are right there with Bazemore a bit ahead defensively. They're in the same ballpark. @abeer3 said Parsons is significantly better than Bazemore and I'm just not sure that's true. Parsons may be a bit better, but significantly is pushing it.

I'm beginning to really like the idea of Whiteside/Parsons. Parsons has the kind of attitude and approach that would likely work well with Whiteside. The only problem is whether or not those two are really all that committed to winning. Either way, we need the help and have the cash to spend so... Might as well go for it.

Whiteside has seemingly made it clear that LA can sweep him off his feet early in this process. Get in, show him the basketball stuff, show him a bunch of business opportunities, and cut the check.

Wait, he's meeting with all 3 teams tonight? He's either staying up late, or those are going to be some short meetings.

I watch every episode of Shark Tank, and there are some personalities on there that opt to accept a deal from Cuban over a similar deal from someone else, just because they like Cuban's "cool factor" (can see themselves clubbing with him, etc). Whiteside seems like he'd be one of those guys.

Cuban's personality contrasted with Mitch/Jim, and the fact that Cuban is also a great businessman who likely can better mesh business opportunities into his basketball pitch, has me a little worried.

I'm almost concerned that we overcompensate for the criticisms of our business-focused pitches from the last few years, and don't include ENOUGH opportunities from our business partners in the Whiteside meeting.
