I'd be more excited about Batum if it was 2-3 years ago.

Does Cha really re-sign Batum to the max with a 5th year? His Max is at $26-27 million a year I think. If not, correct me .

Batum would be a pretty sweet addition. He's not a dead eye shooter, but he's good on both sides of the court.

Yeah, the more I think about it it grows on me. He isn't the same shooter he was in POR, but he can do a lot of things well and in Luke's system we need guys who can do a variety of things from passing well to knowing how to defend many different positions. Batum can still do those things.

Correct. He's in the 6-9 year veteran range.

It's almost certainly posturing. Batum has been pretty open about wanting to stay in Charlotte, but he's also made it clear he's not taking a big pay cut or anything. I'm guessing Charlotte has been lukewarm to the idea of maxing him, but they probably do it before it's all said and done.

The Lakers would do well to try to take one of Batum, Lee, or Marvin Williams away from them though.

Batum is not a max player. I wouldn't pay him the max. If you have to overpay. Give it to the positions the Lakers need. SG and Center. Batum is a SF. Ingram is a SF. Ingram could play SG but he is better fit at SF.

Every position is a position of need for the Lakers, but Batum is capable of playing either wing in the offense we're going to be running.

    Russell/Batum/Ingram/Randle/Whiteside
    Clarkson/Williams/???/Nance Jr./???

That's a damn fine start. Damn fine. They can switch 1-3 defensively for the most part even some of the 4 and Whiteside there to clean up. Three solid shooters on the perimeter? Yeah. That's a hell of an off-season.

At this point i consider it a foregone conclusion that he's gone. I'm just not sure they have enough money to dole out right now. The real question is if someone like Dallas can steal him away. This could be a big chance to start getting our credibility back.

I wasn't in on Batum for that price before, but after the Ding piece and all the media hate, screw it, I want Jim and co. to sign these guys and give a big middle finger to everyone for all the unnecessary hate these past couple of days.

I think the Lakers have a very very good shot at getting him... but I don't think his dealership car is a good indicator of his FA plans. I mean it could be, but at the same time he's a pro athlete. Maybe he just doesn't want that car anymore?

The other thing with Batum is if you can grab a veteran of good caliber and character, maybe another follows suit? If you can get Horford/Batum this summer don't you take it and run?

Credibility wont be defined until Whiteside is killing it during the season. The word is already out that the Lakers are going after Whiteside. And all the negative articles are out about Whiteside. It's a perfect scenario for the masses to than talk about how the Lakers overpaid and how bad of an attitude Whiteside will have in 2017. Watch. Lakers will finally get people to come in, and they will get lambasted.

    because you don't want it?
because it takes up room on the lot?
    because you want to?

I have no idea. Could be anything.
