Well if those are his negatives. Then it's Luke's job to adapt and figure out best way to utilize him to the fullest

If Lakers get Whiteside, they fill 2 huge holes they didnt have when the season ended.

    Whiteside
    Randle
    Ingram
    Clarkson
    Russell

That is a young, up and coming team with a coach who has a talent of communication. Even if the Lakers just resigned in house guys like Bass and Black, etc. I would be content on going into next year with that team.

as long as he can buy into the team game n not try to just market his brand(a la Dwight needing more offensive touches).... Unfortunately, this is a risk we need to take

What an annoying clip with the flashing color effects and editing style. Whatever. Guess the guy thought it was pretty cool to do all that. Hey he looks like he can ball. First clip, annoying or not, I have watched on Whiteside.

Not sure if it's been posted by the Lakers are reportedly still interested in DeRozan.

Also earlier today Windhorst said the Lakers will move fast on Whiteside. He made it seem like there's a very strong possibility we sign Hassan. Miami has twenty million dollars less than Los Angeles and they still have to re-sign Wade, Deng, Johnson, and of course will likely pursue Durant. If they do I don't see how they have enough unless they allow Wade to walk and that isn't happening. I think a deal gets done and Hassan Whiteside will be a Los Angeles Laker.

Watching Whiteside's interview earlier today it doesn't sound like he's really keen on re-signing with the Heat. He was asked about loyalty and said this isn't about loyalty. It's about the best situation for him. Is Miami a better situation? No it's not. They're better right now, but they've peaked imo. Wade is getting older, Bosh may have to retire, and Durant isn't likely to leave OKC. The Lakers can offer him as much money, the #1 option/best player for now anyway, and of course it's L.A.

All great points, but I think his real negatives are off-the-court. On the court he's a tremendous fit especially defensively. Offensively he's a fantastic pick and roll partner, but not a great passer and has had trouble free throw shooting.

But the real problems are a) can we keep him focused? b) is he going to continue putting work in like our other youngsters? and c) will he be a positive influence on the youngsters? Those are all more real questions than anything I have on the court honestly.

I haven't seen much of recent Heat games, so could someone tell me if Whiteside is as good his stats say he is? I mean....14.2 pts 11.8 reb 3.7 blk 60.6 fg% in 29 minutes....? Those are some monstrous numbers.

Whiteside is better than his numbers. He's a dominant defensive presence. Has a couple of decent moves on the low block. Great finisher. Rim runner. Elite shot blocker. Alters shots as well. Athletic. Lobs, transition opportunities, screen and rolls. Lots of possibilities with this guy and he'd be great in the motion offense because of his screening. Not a good passer, but Luke will adjust the system to his personel as he should.

I'm happy we aren't embarassing ourselves with Durant and focus on players, we actually have a shot at.

Whiteside is certainly an issue...immature and not exactly competitive. He plays because its cool and he makes a lot of money. He doesn't care about winning championships. Considering our guys aren't exactly mature and veterans, there is a chance we implode.

With that said, the Lakers can't be choosers. Adding an athlete like Whiteside, who happens to fill a huge gap in the lineup, who blocks around 4 shots per game is a chance we cannot pass on. I'm definitely on the Whiteside bandwagon but I'm also aware this can be a problem.

If Luke werent the coach I might really worry. But I believe Luke will reach him and have him playing well and earning his contract.

It's not just Luke. Shaw as a good reputation as an assistant; not only because of his work developing players but because he holds players accountable. Often, he played the bad cop in Indiana with a team that had to deal with Lance Stephenson.

Those are understated negatives on Whiteside. He can't shoot outside 10'. So he really cannot, absolutely cannot, pop out to 3 to space. He can shoot surprisingly well to ten feet though.

Doesn't pass the ball. Not even sure he can.

His negatives are scary. His positives are a bit more scary. He's one of the best PnR bigs in the game. He's elite defensively.

Honestly, if he was our only max this off-season, I am not shedding tears. We can build some decent depth filling out the roster and preserving a max space for next year.

    Solomon Hill
    Derrick Williams
    Jeff Green
    Aaron Affalo
    DJ Augustin
    Brandon Rush

Names off the top of my head to create some depth while being. competitive and keep flexbility heading into next summer.

On one hand, I like that we seem to be focusing on realistic targets.

On the other hand, Parsons injury history is troubling to say the least.
