Interesting. I don't think he stays in Memphis, IMO.

That Conley-Whiteside combo is so tantalizing. Salivating...

forgot about afflalo. he's been trending down, i believe, but he's a local guy, right? maybe he plays for a little less if he's offered a starting role at home. although it's a bit of a slap to jc's face to move him to the bench for someone whom he has a right to believe is an inferior player. same goes for lee, i suppose.

I'm warming up to the idea of Conley. Yes we already have Russell, but you can never have enough playmakers or two players. You add two All Stars to the mix who both are excellent two way players and we're likely a postseason team again.

it's just a lot of years out of position and/or on the bench for russell.

I'm thinking Magic/Nixon or Bad boys Pistons backcourt. interchangeable playmakers in the starting line up.

Conley to Mavs would be interesting, Cuban finally gets his big FA signing.

conley to the mavs makes a lot of sense, actually. i could see them letting parsons walk if that happened, so that they could sign a center.

in regards to conley/dlo as dumars/thomas or magic/nixon...i don't know if that works. in fact, i don't really think those are cases involving interchangeable guards. dumars had some playmaking ability, but not a ton, and it wasn't the preferred option. i'm not sure i've seen two real pgs able to coexist. the most recent foray into this (dragic/bledsoe) sort of ended in disaster for that team.

if dlo's going to be the pg, i think you have to hand him the keys. and i don't think you sign a mike conley if you plan to groom russell as the future pg. i was even annoyed last year when scott had dlo playing off the ball in some of the lineups. if he's a sg, he's not a special player, imo. he needs to be able to play the point--guard pgs, initiate the offense, work out of the pick and roll, all that stuff. you can't just swap turns on those things.

Russell can play the 2 and he's not on the bench. Don't see the big deal. It's talent and a good fit and we need it.

No to Conley. Too many dollars tied up in a position where we're already stacked with young guards. I would rather spend that $ on a wing.

I don't understand the Conley angle. I mean I'm not hating on it, I just want to understand why so many people want to sign him when we have Russell, JC, & Lou. I don't think playing Conley at the 2 would be really smart. Plus if hes suppose to play the 1 and move Russell to the 2 I think that takes away from Russell's passing ability as a up and coming PG. Like others have said lets spend money on a C and SG/SF first.

Conley is one of the best point guards in the league. Not that hard of a concept to grasp. He's an All Star and still in his prime. It's a no brainer.

There's no question on DARs talent but veteran leadership in the back court is almost nil. There will be more Randle coast to coast because he thinks the guards aren't feeding him. This Luke offense is well and good but without a good decision maker running things, it will still be chaos. D'Angelo at this point is not that guy, nor JC, this team needs a real leader who can make everybody happy.

I like Conley a great deal. I don't know if I'd pursue him. I guess we'll see what the Lakers put an emphasis come this July. I have a feeling they'll place a premium on pursuing long, versatile wing defenders and a rim protecting big, IMO.

The FO will be fools not consider getting Conley. It's the first time a real point guard is available in years. I hope they don't waste time on Quixotic quests to get Durant or LBJ. Pursue guys who we have a chance to sign to add to our burgeoning young talents.

I don't think they'll go after LBJ, but I think they will go after KD. I think they have a plan, though. If they have 4 mock drafts for any particular way this draft can go, I expect Mitch to come with the same meticulous preparation for free agency.

I agree with every point @abeer3 made. Playing Russell as a SG and off the ball downgrades him as a player. It takes way his greatest asset, which is his court vision. I'd pass on Conley, or any allstar PG for that matter. There's no need to handcuff any of our young kids when there are clear needs at other positions.

There's only a handful of PGs that I'd be partly alright with taking a few minutes away from Russell and they're all elite players that will never end up here. Well we had one of them briefly and the other one could come next year but that's besides the point.
