As do I. Especially on this team.

I like Barnes, I'd start Ingram at the sg slot and Barnes at the sf, and when we go small ball move randle to the 5 and Barnes to the 4 and jc at sg

That's fine if we don't land anybody in Free Agency; but drafting Ingram shouldn't preclude us from going out and looking for a starting quality SF which is what I expect we'll do. Now, if we don't land one, sure, start him.

I have never understood this. How can the Warriors demand a sign and trade if they let him go? Is it because Barnes is a restricted free agent and not unrestricted? I thought even though he is a RFA if a team like us signs the offer sheet to give him the max and the Warriors don't match he is ours end of story. Why would a sign and trade have to happen?

That is some great length at the 1-3 position and possibly the 5 position too depending on what C we try and sign.

    6-5 PG - Russell
    6-11 SG - Ingram
    6-7 SF - Barnes

I like it a lot. That's my dream to sign/get Barnes from GSW without having to do a sign and trade.

Yeah and imagine if the rumors are true that Hassan Whiteside has interest in us, and we sign him. Damn length with shooting and defensive upside! If I were the lakers I'd go after Whiteside and Barnes number 1 then if kd wants to join us after realizing we have the crazy talent then maybe we can shed some contacts etc and Mitch's magic wand saves us :)

From my very limited understanding of the CBA, the Warriors have Bird Rights on Barnes; as a result, they can offer him more money than any other team pursuing Barnes on the free agent market this coming July.

The purpose behind an S&T allows the Warriors to sign Barnes to his maximum deal under his Bird Rights (more than he would get paid from any other team) and then trade him to that team.

And also get assets back so they aren't left empty handed.

only way i see an S&T for an RFA is if the destination team is over the cap (or not far enough under for the offer). in other words, i wouldn't look for the S&T in a market with so much money.

if this guy's info is correct, it directly conflicts with the report that they'd "match anything", imo. it would behoove the warriors--if they're not sure about paying barnes big money--to move quickly in FA and snatch up another available sf (like deng). deng to GS actually makes a ton of sense, btw. should be a little cheaper, fits what they do, could probably sign a deal that allows some flexibility for them later.

I'm not interested in any s&t deals. We need to ADD talent, not change talent.

if we have to give up our young talent to get Barnes...huge NO.

I would only consider trades for bonafide superstars.

Barnes might be a nice player, but I would not give up any young talent for him.

Also I thought I remembered seeing the new CBA stopped teams from doing the sign and trade deals like that. I thought he could only get bird rights level money if he stayed with the warriors.

i believe this is true. and as much as i like barnes and think he should be one of the lakers' first calls in FA, no way i trade anything for him. the purpose of cap space is only having to use cash to get talent.

I refuse to trade any of our young guns unless the names Durant, James, Davis, Curry or Westbrook are attached to them.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't we sign-and-trade something with little value (like a 2nd round pick) for Barnes, and in exchange the Dubs would get a sizable trade exception for future use if they so desired?

If that's a workable scenario, that's a way for them to get "something" for him while the Lakers would essentially be giving up nothing.

Ehhh. Depends on what we would have to give up to do the sign and trade.

Agreed.. we haven't even seen what our guys can really do. Id rather see what our guys can do than start swapping players around, unless like you said there's a superstar involved then all bets are off.
