I think our young guys are versatile enough that we (fortunately) don't even have to engage in that sort of thinking.
DA - PG (ideal spot) or possibly a SG if we got an elite PG.
JC - PG/SG or 6th man (ideal spot)
Ingram - SF (ideal spot) or SG
Randle - PF (ideal spot) or even a C depending upon what we want to do, for how long, etc.

There are numerous good wing players available both at the max (e.g., DD) or below the max (e.g., Deng, Afflalo).
There are numerous bigs who would fit well here both at the max (e.g., Whiteside) or below (e.g., Biyombo, Mozgov, Noah, Ezeli).

I think it's best to let Ingram develop with the core rather than coming off the bench. His skills translate immediately to the NBA, and if his shooting holds true, he'd be our best floor spacer. I don't see that it's good for either his development or the team's success to have his butt talk to the wood.

I'm one of some guys. Barnes has played better the last few games but I still have doubts about giving him a max deal. I can live with it but I'm not sold he's a max guy and we are drafting Ingram. I'm okay with the front office showing some patience and restraint. I don't see that happening though with Jeanie's deadline.

I think that's a common line of thinking, but I don't agree with it. We've already made it this far, I don't see the Lakers pushing drastically far for no reason now. We've been patient for 2-3 years even with that deadline approaching.

The thing most of us don't consider with Jim is even if he's out as President of Basketball Ops he will still be an owner. He won't leave the franchise, he'll still be there just in a different capacity. The only true casualty of that deadline might be Mitch although we could probably move Mitch into a Jerry West style role.

all i've said is that drafting ingram shouldn't impact FA strategy. go get good players. if they play the same position as a rookie and are better, start them.

you think luol deng is coming here to back up a rookie? no one has really addressed the central point, imo. committing to starting 4 guys with under three years experience (or even three, since we're so keen on clarkson, perhaps our best player, coming off the bench...) is committing to losing a LOT of basketball games.

i'm not even talking about "the deadline". i'm talking about a 4th consecutive abysmal season. it's not good for morale, and it's not good for franchise image. the team has to at least show some upward trajectory. committing to starting all the young guys limits the ability to be creative in FA and with trades. the lakers amassed 60 million for a reason, and it wasn't to fill out the bench.

But that's not what we're saying. We're saying start three of them and move one to the bench. This is the #2 pick we're talking about here and that kid needs to be able to contribute right away. We started D'Angelo right away, I don't know why we wouldn't do the same for Ingram if we draft him considering Ingram seems at least as capable of contributing right away as D'Angelo.

I literally wrote that just before your post, abeer. :)

I think we should start DA, Ingram, and Randle. JC should come off the bench. If we somehow sign two brilliant players who have to play 1,2, or 3, we bump JC and Ingram to the bench. I can't see that happening. We need a big, so one of our big signings will be a big. One won't be. That opens the room for the three young guys to start.

Don't get me wrong, I do get your points. And I won't be upset if we grab some combination of the players that have been discussed on here.

So they found out no Durant? Makes sense for them. Why break up a great thing?

They won't, and it's a waste of time, IMO.

From what I understand, I read that JC would welcome being a 6th man off the bench if it meant staying in Los Angeles. As far as starting level wings go, I'd target: Parsons and Deng. Ingram will need 2 years, and I'd like to win games next year. It doesn't mean I don't think he'll be a very good player; it just means Parsons/Deng help you win more games right now and look better come next years' free agency.

Chandler Parsons is from Casselberry. I bought a house in Casselberry in April. It's fate. Right?

I don't get the notion that Ingram wouldn't be ready for x amount of years. I expect the 2nd pick to start 82 games as a rookie.
