I mean I don't know who is open for trading or if Calderon is even available for something like that (I just know New York desperately wants into this draft), but if Calderon for the #32 is available, I'd want it. I think it takes 2-3 years before Maker or Qi are going to make an impact for at least 2 years and may never make an impact. Calderon gives us a great backup PG that would fit great into Luke's offense. He also provides some veteran presence on a team completely lacking any. Not to mention his expiring contract helps to preserve room next summer for another high profile FA.
From a couple things I've been reading lately, Maker has been impressive in some of his recent workouts and he is now solidly in the first round.
I figured that'd happen. I've said for weeks some team will blow a late 1st on him and stash him. The talent pool likely to be available at #32 isn't necessarily that deep. If DeAndre Bembry falls to #32, I'd take him over Calderon. Zhou Qi keeps dropping so he might be available, but he doesn't impress me. Guerschon Yabusele might be a draft and stash. Basically I'd need someone expected to go in the 1st to drop otherwise I'm not that interested.
I had a dream, a nightmare actually...the Sixers took Simmons at #1...& we took an unknown wing player at #3 who I've never even heard of, & we let the Smeltics take Ingram at #3...it was horrible!
The #32 pick only commands around 900k though doesn't it? Leaving around 6.8 million for a vet PG on a one year deal based on Calderons money (7.7?) But it's all relative, might not be anyone worth the 32 in our eyes or no one might be available in FA. Wouldn't say no to Calderon on our team though.
I'm starting to feel like you guys are mocking me... My big balls plan called for trading down for Bender and getting addl assets. Not taking him at 2 lol. Jimmy needs to win now if he hopes to keep his job. Ingram is our likely pick.
Not sure what if any impact it has on us, but Simmons is nearing a long term deal with Nike on a shoe deal.
Yeah I'm just not excited much about the prospects we have at that draft slot. There's some decent project bigs, but we really don't need another project. We've got 2-3 on the roster right now which is plenty. If we can get some solid return like Calderon for that pick, then I'm all for it.
Two more... Guerschon Yabusele (34.0 draft position – pretty likely to be available) 6'8" 260 PF 20 years old NBA Comparison: Gary Trent with an outside shot, more limited Julius Randle. What he does well: Scoring repertoire (can stroke the three, dunks a lot) and rebounding; tremendous strength; runs the floor well. What he doesn’t do well: He has a two-handed/overhead shot, doesn’t leap well from flatfoot, and he’s really astoundingly clueless on defense. Question: Can he develop the awareness needed to contribute on defense? Bottom Line: If Julius Randle were even more clueless in space and more limited physically, he’d be Yabusele. If he could develop to even close where Randle is, he could obviously be a long term contributor at the energy/stretch 4 in the NBA. Way too early stat thoughts: 5 seasons, 12.4 minutes, 5.3 points, 2.8 rebounds Do I want him? I wouldn’t mind. A.J. Hammons (35.0 draft position – pretty likely to be available) 7' 260 PF 23 years old NBA Comparison: David Harrison, looks like a super poor man’s Anthony Davis What he does well: Post scoring, stout defense, good hands What he doesn’t do well: Questionable work ethic, questionable discipline, sometimes disengaged Question: Can he score and move well enough against NBA size/strength? Bottom Line: He’s not ideal for a floor runner, but he seems like a lower ceiling, more polished, less risky Robert Upshaw. He posted a 104.5 Offensive Efficiency as a Senior. Way too early stat thoughts: 4 seasons, 14.2 MPG, 5.5 points, 3.9 rebounds Do I want him? Honestly, I think he's another intriguing prospect, so if we have room for a 7 footer, he's not a bad option.
I would prefer for us to take either Malik Beasley or Malachi Richardson with our #32 pick which is right around where the latest Draft Express Mock Draft has them around. Updated on Tue Jun 7th at 11:08:31 AM http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2016/ Malik Beasley Strengths Yes, I know we sort of already have an SG in Clarkson and Lou but at this point in the draft you take the person with the best upside and potential. I have really liked what I've read about this man's character, work ethic (improved outside shot & form), and his style of play with a Luke led offense. Malachi Richardson Strengths I've seen more of Malachi than of Malik on tv during the college season and at pick #32 this guy screams intangibles and versatility with his driving ability and length on the perimeter in regards to defense. Sure, some people will question his defensive potential because he went to Syracuse and played zone, but the skill set is there to be taped into.
Beasley is top 20 in a bunch of mocks. Richardson is even higher. I don't think either will be available. Or, at the very least, their average draft position is too low (as in out of our reach), so I won't profile them.
DE has Malachi, LeVert, and Beasley all in the 2nd Round I believe or late first. LeVert is definitely in the 2nd round with some serious, serious injury concerns.
The #2 pick is soo significant for this franchise, that I really don't care about #32 if we end up with Simmons or Ingram (preferably Ingram). But a low second rounder is very valuable. The front office has given me zero reasons to worry about them though. They have had quiet an impressive streak. Even lesser guys like Walton, Cook, Farmar etc. were servicable NBA players at some point in their career. We really haven't messed up any draft picks the last 10 years from what I remember. We did "buy" a few very late second rounders like Leron Profit or Cheick Samb (lol), that were traded away. But we also picked Mark Gasol with 45 I believe, Clarkson with 46 and so on...so our scouting is TOP, even if people want to bash Jim for making his friend a scout. If thats the result, I'll take it.
you just jinxed it! but yes, most of the lakers' picks, pre-50s, have outperformed their draft position, often by a wide margin. anthony brown may end up being a rare exception. but espn says management is horrible, so none of this can be true.
