ESPN sources say Lakers bringing in Israeli PG Gal Mekel for audition this week. Which makes sense given how much Lakers need a shot-creator

Another PG Lakers are looking at, according to my man @IAmDPick, is Dwight Buycks, who got the call after John Lucas passed to go to China

Tyrus Thomas & Quincy Miller have also been reported as players LAL will audition this week. Any move requires creating a roster spot first

RT @IAmDPick: Small forward Jordan Hamilton to audition for the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow, I'm told (ANOTHER NAME ON LAKERS' RADAR)

Because Lakers have 15 players, they'd have to make a cut to add anyone. PG believed to be biggest need ... but they need a lot right now

Veteran guard John Lucas III has pulled out of scheduled audition with Lakers this week. Has lucrative deal in China that he'll take instead

Who would we cut to make room for one of these guys?

My guess is between Henry and Kelly.

Why is PG the biggest need?

Jeremy/Price is fine. Price is better than any fodder that's out there, unless you can sign a shooter.

Henry. Like the Quinsey Miller report that Kevin Ding tweeted out, if we add anyone Henry is the likely guy to get the axe

Don't count out cutting Wesley too at this point. The Lakers are looking for cheap, long-term type options. It's been two years now with Wesley and he's regressing. Right now I might cut him before Henry if they were both relatively healthy.

I'd also cut Ronnie Price if we thought Mekel might be a young piece we'd want to keep around. I love what Ronnie brings defensively, but we're a rebuilding team. We don't need 31 year old vets, we need youth.

I'd be fine with Mekel. I've heard and seen some good things. I think he'd be more helpful to the bench unit than Price honestly. Mekel is more of a creator and is able to do more offensively. We're going to be a crappy defensive team with or without Price, but we need to be able to score off the bench. Mekel will help with that if we pick him up.

Heck, if we can't defend anybody, we might as well try to outscore them...at least the Lakers are attempting to see what's out there; there have to be two more bodies that are better than Wesley and Price...hopefully.

What's the deal with Randle and Nash's injury exceptions? Neither one of those guys is going to play this season. Why are they occupying roster spots officially? Shouldn't those be open spots?

We've been granted an exception for Randle last I'd heard.

    Nash/Lin/Clarkson/Price
    Bryant/Ellington/Henry
    Johnson/Young
    Boozer/Kelly
    Hill/Davis/Sacre

We should totally have at least one roster spot open. Am I forgetting someone?

Wont be Johnson just for the simple fact like it or not, theyre not gonna get rid of someone who starts and plays a heavy dose of minutes and been in the system since the off season for someone off the street. Just my opinion.

I'd cut him if Miller looks like he can be a "3 and D" guy.

But even IF he is capable, it wont be from day 1 because hed have to play catchup as far as learning the philosophy/team mates/system etc. Dont you think?

Yes maybe, but the whole point of a "3 and D" player is that they fit easily into a system. I don't know enough about Miller to know whether or not he could be that person.

As for Mekel, I think he'd fit in pretty easily. We run a basically free lance system off the bench anyway. Whenever he got into the game he'd just be the ball controller. He's got a Steve Nash-esque game: unathletic, but constantly threatening. His shot looks funny, but other than that I think he'd be fine to lead the bench unit. Mekel is a pretty decent player. He was supposed to sign in Indiana but had some sort of weird Visa issues I think. If we could get him, it's an upgrade I think.

Yeah, it's gonna be almost impossible for anyone we sign to match Wes' beastly numbers and contribution. 4 points and 1 rebound doesn't just roll in off the street. ;)

Ugh, cutting Wes would be my first option in a heartbeat.

But he's playing heavy starter minutes, don't know why, Byron seems to want to try and get more out of him to prove something, but it's not working.

Give me Miller there, and give Nick Young 35mpg.

He's playing heavy minutes because we have no depth at the SF position. He's our only true SF and Nick Young just got back from injury.

Ellington is also out which is an issue. If Ellington were still here, then Young could focus on only playing at SF.

    Bryant (32)/Ellington (15)/Clarkson (3)
    Johnson (20)/ Young (28)

    That's about right to me.
