So just keeping tabs, where are all the fans that didn't think we'd get the pick? Aren't you glad we did

When you're as bad as the Suxers you can't worry about fit. They need to take the best player whoever that is to them. They could easily trade one of Noel or Okafor.

Little late to the party but hell yes!!!! We have assets, cap space and young talent. We have a capable coach running a favorable system. And we are the Lakers. Today is good.

It'd be cool to have a "Russell Simmons" offense.

Let's now commence arguing on who to pick! Buddy Hield, or anyone out of the top 2, supporters set forth your opinions. lol

DAR was not in the conversation, except for a poster or two, last year. Will we be shocked again on draft day?

i was one of the few people around here who was all for russell from the start. this team sorely needed a legit PG

i'm completely fine with either simmons or ingram. i prefer ingram but either way, we end up with one hell of a player. there's no way they'll move the pick or draft someone other than simmons or ingram, it'll be one of the two

ingram is the best fit for both teams so i expect the sixers to take him but i could see them taking simmons just because he's #1 on the board

Another year where every player wants to go second :D
We're on a roll lately. Kobe's 60, Luke replacing b0ron, now a top 2 pick. If we can get a Horford/Whiteside now and Russ next year...

Great to read we kept the pick when I woke up!

It's a pretty great situation to be in, trade options are much better, or we get a great young player to add to our core.

In grand probably the better fit, but Simmons and Russell are great friends which might help both of them more next year.

    Win-win!

This is terrific. I feel much better about the future of our team right now, even if we shop the pick.

We have been incredibly lucky with the draft for 2 years now considering the odds. This is awesome. Byron gone, kept our pick and pulled the #2 with a 2 player-deep draft. We didn't lose any more picks from that horrible Nash trade (Jim's idea I want to add). Maybe lady-luck is back in Lakerland. We still have some wait, we can't send our youth off in some big FA haul yet but there is a light at the end of the tunnel now. Especially for summer 2017 with all the free agents and enough time for our youth to get their asset values up. And if we deem it better to keep some or all of our kids that's fine too. But it's nice to have options and a future.

Bird is acting crazy at the moment. Maybe Mitch should make "the" call?

It was nice to be able to relax and know that the Lakers get to keep their pick. Nothing would have been worse than to suffer through the circus that was last year and walk away with nothing as they give Phily a 4 or 5 pick in the draft. Hopefully next year that first round pick that the Lakers will be giving them will be at most a 13 or 14.

At this point I think that the greatest comfort is that Philly is the team picking first. They have managed to mishandle their draft picks in historic ways. And I am not just talking the last few years, look up their draft history and you will see a lot of misses and MC-W, who they traded for essentially a future draft pick. I have full faith that they will continue their inept ways and the Lakers will land the player who will develop into the better NBA player.

As for the talent in question, I can't say that I have watched either much, but I will say this I haven't seen the fundamental skills maturity that Ben Simmons has in a long time. His game appears to be super polished, save for the jumper and I am not sure his D is anything to brag about, and he seems to play with a great understanding of the game. I am not sure he has the drive or cut throat attitude to develop into a killer in the NBA, but his skills are there. As for Ingram, as a 6'5'' man who played college ball at 245-260lbs, I can imagine weighing in at 190lbs, but its a different game and he is still young. I think that he has the fire and the shot to really make it a huge splash in the NBA. It seems he has gotten hi praise from everyone regarding his character and work ethic as well.

If it were up to me as I sit in this chair to pick between the two I think I am hoping for Ingram. Russell and Randle are already ball-centric and are capable of distributing the rock. Ingram would add the shooting the Lakers need and perhaps grow into a great defender. Plus Ingram is a late bloomer who is reported to be a hard nosed player with a great work ethic. There is something to be said about such hi praise from an old school coach like coach K. Ask me again tomorrow and that view might change, but in the end I will be happy with whatever player the Lakers land on draft day.

I just can't take another year like this so whomever you land Coach Puke, lets get'er done.

GO .... you 70 Centers ...GO!

Embiid says he'll be ready next season in more great Sixers news
    Eric Freeman,Ball Don't Lie 8 hours ago
[IMG]Tuesday was unquestionably a good night for the Philadelphia 76ers, who won the draft lottery to obtain the No. 1 pick after a 10-72 season. It's not clear if that reward will prove to be worth three years of unrepentant losing, but it at least validates a great deal of ex-GM Sam Hinkie's controversial plan and gives the franchise real hope for the future. Adding Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram (or a mystery candidate) will give them a bright prospect with the chance to grow into stardom.

[Follow Dunks Don't Lie on Tumblr: The best slams from all of basketball]

The night got a whole lot better shortly after it was revealed that the Sixers had won the first pick. Barring any setbacks, Hinkie's highest-profile draft selection will be available to play his first game for the franchise when the 2016-17 season begins. After two seasons lost to foot injuries, center Joel Embiid says he will be ready and in uniform:

Embiid's announcement echoes a statement from head coach Brett Brown last weekthat put his on-court debut as "a strong belief." Embiid's tweet takes the anticipation to a new level, particularly given the likely debut of fellow 2014 first-rounder Dario Saric and the addition of the eventual top pick in the draft. Embiid's pretty happy about his new teammate, too:

That's a reference to a report that Embiid did not approach his rehabilitation process seriously and regularly consumed pitchers of Shirley Temples (Shirleys Temple?). No one ever said Embiid lacked a sense of humor.

Embiid carried star potential at the time of his selection and was considered a excellent draft's top prospect before breaking his foot. However, there's no telling what two years away from high-level competition has done to his game, just as it's unknown if another injury is a few months away. For that matter, Brown said in March that Embiid will be under serious minutes restrictions upon his return and should be behind Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel on the depth chart at center.

Whatever. Sixers fans deserve to get excited about something, and Embiid has as much potential as anyone on the roster. His return is great news for a franchise that needs as many talented players as it can get. Here's hoping he won't be off the court again for some time once he debuts.

Man, this offseason is just too good. All the chips seem to be falling in our favor.
