Amico Hoops has me posting my picks for free agent signings. Just finished my picks at the center position here. And it's probably not who you think.
It was almost exactly who we all think Except we know Drummond is a lost cause. There's not a chance in hell Detroit lets him go.
I don't like Derozan but he's a necessarry step .... If he's willing to come here , we definetely need to sign him It can't be superstar or bust for the 4th straight season. I think some fans may have underestimated how the latest 3 terrible seasons have damaged our organization and its attractivity for free agents . We ABSOLUTELY need to get better next season and show the non Lakers players we have a plan . Plus our young talents don't guarantee us to add key players in a couple of seasons at all .. It's not a given they are going to improve and be good enough ...
I support the Demar Derozan acquisition. We need talent, period point blank. Before we get a Shaq, we need to get a Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, and a Cedric Ceballos. We need to get competitive before someone like Kevin Durant actually considers us.
Or we get a bunch of Omer Asiks and be stuck with them for the next 4 - 5 years, having to play them ahead of the more talented youth to not let 20mil per to rot on the bench next to Rob Sacre. Clearly DDR is better than that, but some of you overestimate his appeal to other FAs. It's the opportunity that matters. Anyway, I think this is a moot discussion, as DDR will stay put.
When has an UFA ever left his team to join the 2nd worst team in the league after leading them to the conference finals for the first time as the best (arguably) player? TOR is likely to challenge CLE every year, and Lebron's career clock is ticking. I understand that DDR's a home town kid and he'd love to carry on kobe's legacy as the Lakers next big SG, but is that really enough?
Barnes is more realistic shot than DDR. There is no way the Warriors will match offer sheets for him(assuming 15mil per), where they have Brandon Rush(just usage on the team wise). Also he doesn't want to be the 4th option on a team forever.
Brandon Rush and Harrison Barnes are two very different players that provide two very different things. Barnes will almost certainly get a max deal worth north of 20 million dollars. The Warriors likely match anything less than that. I agree he doesn't want to be the 4th option forever, but unfortunately for him it's not his call. As an RFA, the Warriors can just match and force him to stay there where he'll have to be competing for a title every year earning 20 million!
Totally agree, this can happen. But is it a wise move to pay 20 mil to your 4th best player? Remember, they can attract a lot of aging FAs this summer. If not Brandon Rush, they can easily find a ring chasing quality player for cheap, like Luol Deng.
good points on both sides, re: barnes. i hope chkad is right. i think barnes is a great fit for the lakers current roster and future hopes. maybe the best fit in this year's FA crop. well, short of durant.
I'm with ya. I just wonder how loyal the Warriors are to this budding dynasty. Do you match everything and spend into oblivion for the chance to make one of the All-Time great teams?
If the sole criteria is "best fit," Barnes may edge out the superior player in Durant. He clicks all the right boxes, including his experience in the GSW system, and he'll be able to grow and peak with our young guns, making him a long-term acquisition. If we draft Ingram/Simmons though, I'd take Deng for 2 years for his leadership and willingness to take a backseat when the inevitable time comes. He'd be our Iguodala.
If it's true inside the organization that Jeanie truly wanted Boron Scott to come back next season, then Jim and Mitch should be granted one more year just from the HUGE improvement in the future prospects for the Franchise they pulled the trigger on anyway in firing Scott's pathetic a** and locking up Luke Walton. Making the first round of the playoffs does it for me.
I've only really watched the player you like most one time a couple days ago but was very impressed. With the right trainers and basketball development staff he could really turn into something. As trodgers noted .. he's a hell of an athlete. Great looking legs. Thick calves. Let's see if he shows up big for the Cleveland series.
Now that we have the #2 overall pick (Thank you basketball Gods), this offseason just went from important to you better get some guys in here no excuses. New coach, top pick, a bunch of young talent and cap space, make it happen Mitch. Make it happen.
Luke as the coach, #2 pick secured...we finally look less like a dumpster fire and more like a legitimate NBA destination. Maybe we can land some marquee FAs after all.
Durant or Jimmy Butler. Those are the only two I would trade the pick for. Otherwise we have a very young core of 3 or 4 talented players that can grow together. I'm willing to wait a few seasons for them to marinade for all that talent if that home run trade doesn't come up this off season.
I hope we keep the pick and just sign some free agents. I don't see us being able to trade for anyone I would part with the pick for.
