Los Spurs have been developing Castle and Harper and developed Vassel and Keldon Johnson.
They played Carter Bryant meaningful minutes throughout these playoffs.
It is very possible to be a great team while developing young talent.

They developed Vassell and Keldon while being bad and getting the top picks that got them Wemby, Castle and Harper.
Castle and Harper are top picks with superstar potential, it helps.
But I agree with the general point and Bryant is a good example. While he is indeed a menace on defense, he doesn't shoot well and doesn't do much on offense but they found minutes for him and he kept earning them and growing through the season.

I expect the same for Thiero and Carr. Thiero had the injuries last season so hopefully he's healthy this whole summer. He must play all games. Start with a stint per half. Then start growing from there as he develops.

That's another thing about this young guys, JJ has yet to show he can trust young guys and give them the platform to grow.
JJ is very detail oriented which usually doesn't mesh well with young players

this is all stuff that carr can basically do now, or he's at least ahead of where a lot of those guys were when they entered the league.

felt like he got lots of good looks and missed. in his head.

not sure why carr can't improve when hauser could.

well, no players got traded last night, so who was the pick at 25 if not carr? tarris reed seems to be the consensus. i'd take carr over reed and not worry about it. you can find reed types in FA and via trade. if carr fulfills his potential, you never get a chance to get your hands on him.

i'm just not sure that's true. it would be easier to buy if anyone had traded anyone for a pick last night.

i get the concerns. it seems like for a third straight draft we kind of headed into it hoping to trade the pick, then took a prospect who slipped. the first two turned out pretty bad.

i like the theoretical fit of this one more, and i'm not convinced there was much else to be done. just have to let it play out. regardless, whoever we picked at 25 was highly unlikely to do much for us this year.

Yeah agree with you there wasn't probably a market.
I mean NY literally didn't want to pick in the 1st round and nobody got their pick but us for money. Any team could have got that one.

Teams do stuff nobody understands. I really can't understand what NOLA is doing. Are they worried if they suck they lose the team? I've read it's not a great basketball city there? Is this accurate?
I also fully expected for OKC to consolidate the 2 picks into 1 and Warriors to trade the #11. Clippers #5 was also out there and nobody did anything.

So yeah, just unfortunate probably. I just feel we lost an asset, a pretty valuable one imo for deals for rotation players from bad teams. It's the type of package that would make sense.

Let's see, hope next week will bring good news

As for the pick itself, if you need to do it, I'd like something thing different than "the guy that fell". Reed looked like someone who would fit right away without much question marks. I'd like to get someone with maybe less upside but that can give us a solid 8th man, someone better than Jake

Once we didn’t trade the #25 for Claxton or Stewart in the pre draft trades - the writing was on the wall. We picked the best player available and he has tangible skills like shooting and athleticism that can’t just be taught.

I’m happy with it but the expectations have to be lowered. Both Carr and Adou should be viewed as needing 2 years to develop. But they’re promising athletically at least.

I'm cool with however long it takes for them to develop as long as we are actively developing them and not just hoping it miraculously happens on its own.

To be fair to JJ, he gave both Adou and Bronny time in the playoffs. Yes it wasn’t a lot, but still valuable. Hopefully this year all 3 guys can get 50-60 games at 15 mins this season. That could be some good development and a stepping stone.

The thing is, they need to be developed before the playoffs. Coach doesn't do his job and then expects youngs players to be ready and bail him out for being short sighted.. IMO that is p#ss poor coaching.
