I'm going to be bummed, too, as it's the major chip for this summer. for me, it's not about the player, but the trade value. ingram or simmons may not be superstars, but you can sell them to your fanbase as hope for your outgoing allstar (I'm looking at you, Chicago). nobody is signing with the lakers unless there's already an allstar in the fold, imo. that pick is the quickest (only?) route to one. if we lose the pick, I'm bracing for hibberts.
Agreed except I'm bracing for Lou Williamses instead of Hibberts although there will likely be a combination of both. I also think there's a chance the Lakers can lure a kid like DeRozan or Whiteside without an All-Star already in place because they're both fairly young.
Even though the odds of staying in top 3 is slightly in our favor, I still mentally prepare for us losing the pick just based on the past teams slotted as the second worst team getting out of the top 3.... But in all I wouldn't be devastated if we didn't get the pick, we still have our young studs with a new exciting coach/system, and 60+ million to spend on good to great free agents, according to multiple reports we are going to recruit better than last year with Luke being the recruiter so that's exciting enough to make me not care about the pick if we get it or not.
We really still going on about this. If we reverse back to when that trade happened it was all praise and excitement. But as things go, one leg break in the 2nd game of the season changed everything. Time to move on, case closed.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Two 1st round picks one with unfavorable protection for an over the hill guy was really ill conceived.
I agree with you on this. I'm sure Mitch and Jim haven't forgotten this. I just think from us fans perspective its an easy target to fall back on. I would say the same thing about someone bringing up the Kobe contract again. We get it...... it was really high
I'll be very upset at missing the pick at this point. We need it to flip for a stud to help with FAs. Or hell if we keep it we still get a nice young player. Either way, getting it this summer helps speed up the rebuild in a major way.
The pick is WAY more valuable to us this year, as we'll have a much better record next year and a corresponding lower draft pick. #nomorebasketballreasons
Just to stress myself out, I ran the Realgm lottery sim 10x: 1. phi,bos,la 2. min,la,phi 3. den,phi,la 4. pho,bos,phi,la 5. bos,pho,la 6. phi,la,min 7. phi,la,pho 8. la,phi,den 9. min,bos,la 10. phi,den,noh,la Lost the pick 2/10. That's encouraging. Only won lotto once. Stayed in 2nd three times. Dropped to 3rd six times. Also ran the espn lotto sim and we kept the pick 8/10 times, with more #1s and #2s.
It should be. If Cleveland got it just because LeBron left we should get it because our warrior has retired.
Not only do we need to KEEP the pick....we also need it to be #1 or #2 to get a guy like Butler or Cousins. Also, we need Boston pick to slip to 6th or something. We can't have them stay in the top 3 or potentially WIN the lotto...if they do, forget about getting anybody. Their offer would blow ours out of the water.
Finally did some "scouting" (aka watching highlight videos on YouTube) and I'm infinitely more impressed by Ingram then Simmons. I would not trade the #1 pick AND an asset Ike Clarkson for Butler.
I want no part of Cousins on our team and especially for a top 3 pick. He's fools gold. All the players in Sac hate him. It'll be no different here, except he'll be our problem. I'd rather get a young stud to mix in with our other studs and sign some FAs.
I like Ingram a lot, but I still make that move. Not only is Butler a stud, but his presence makes it easier to get one or two other studs. Ingram could be great in a few years, but Butler is great now and I want to win. A couple years ago the #1 got Kevin Love. If we're lucky the #1 can get us Butler or maybe Cousins.
