Blatt needs time to rebuild his image. I think he should be an assistant for a while to be honest. He just isn't the guy to lead us back to glory or respectability. Lebron and the rest of the Cavs really destroyed his reputation and credibility. I think he would have a hard time earning respect in a locker room right now.

I'm honestly not interested in him at all as our head coach. We got it right with the first few names we mentioned. Let's stick with Luke, Messina, and Ollie. Maybe Van Gundy if for some reason all of those guys pass.

Report: No Cavaliers veterans liked David Blatt

I think he'd make a great assistant with us. A great one. If New York offers him the Head Coach job, then he'd be a pretty good fit there too, but I'd absolutely love Blatt and Shaw as assistants to Luke.

Is Blatt a Triangle guy or super close to same motion offense? Or if Phil hires him does he make him change if his own style is not close?

    Hmm....

I've followed Blatt for a long time and not once anything like that came up in any of the teams he coached.

I'm sure he can run parts of the Triangle, but he's not necessarily a "Triangle" guy.

There is one guy who voted the Others option. I'm curious whoever you are as to who you want? Jay Wright? Or something in the vein of Vinny Del Negro?

My mind seems to change with each video I watch/article I read, but I'm currently leaning towards Messina.

I'd be OK with any of those guys. I think Luke and Messina would be fantastic for this young team. Luke knows how to motivate them, make them play like a team, he's young and enthusiastic. Messina has a brilliant basketball mind for sure. Both would do better than Byron. There is no doubt in my mind. And no, I'm not expecting the team to be a contender or anything, I'm not that crazy. But creating a positive atmosphere would be a good first step.

Luke's going to be a star recruiter wherever he winds up ultimately as head coach. Young. Magnetic personality. For a rookie head coach .....hands down an unparalleled history of great basketball minds have influenced his development since the first day he ever picked up a basketball. Has rings recently for credibility and the Hollywood looks and presence of a Pat Riley. Luke's more personable. And importantly FAs can call any of the star players on the championship Warriors and say hey what's it like to play for this guy? They all love Luke!

Im with you on everything except "magnetic personality". I've actually hung out with Luke and his brother in SD...Luke is a really nice guy, but not exactly MR. personality. I'd give Kevin ollie the upper hand on personality. I also think ollie would be a great recruiter. Is luke gonna command respect from his coaching staff? Thats my question. I think he will, but it will take time.

I voted the other option. I was thinking along the lines of Mark Jackson or John Calipari. Both has a proven track record and can teach basketball to our young core. Mark Jackson would establish an identity and culture like he did in Golden State. John Calipari would be a great recruiter like he did in Kentucky. I'm not on the Luke Walton wagon as of yet like most people are only because I don't think he's had enough of a sample size to legitimize his track record.

I think it's got to be Luke at this point. Just a matter of time and money.

How fun! But how long ago was it and how much maybe has he grown since then in confidence and professional stature and handling himself? (I've had no personal contact with him)

But I've been basing my comments to this recently totally on that article and youtube interview 3 or 4 days ago which was recent but I just looked for a bit and can't find. The article whoever the author is was saying that. And that he made you feel special (paraphrasing) whether you were in his inner circle or not. Seems totally possible like it could be true. Klay Thompson told Pops that they all love him up there. Lot of anecdotal descriptions like that going around.

Sounds like its down to Luke or Messina.

Ollie actually never came out and said he was interested in the Laker jobs, if I remember correctly he said it was "intriguing", semantics really.
He would have been an interesting hire. A good youth development and recruiter.
