I'm always intrigued by the numbers - in particular by Kobe's numbers. Since Turning 30: Most Points Kobe is 26th with 10,219 points. Malone scored 19,941 after 30. Most Assists Kobe is 51st with 1937 assists. Stockton dished 8441 after 30. Most Rebounds Kobe is 148th with 2037 rebounds. Wilt grabbed 10,433 after 30. In age 36 season Kobe has 138 points, tied for 118th all time. Malone is the leader with 2095 points! Kobe has 14 assists, tied for 147th all time. Nash is the leader with 855! Kobe has 26 rebounds, which is 151st. Wilt is the leader with 1526! Look at what people were able to do at age 36: average 25 points, hand out double digit assists, grab 20 boards a game. Crazy, and as long as Kobe stays healthy, we'll see him fly up these charts. It will be small consolation for some of us. "After 30" and "age 36 season" are just basketball-reference's stat codes.
I must be honest, I was unsure if he was going to be able to put up 25+ ppg this season but it looks like he's doing it. I know it's because he has to with the current squad but it still amazes me how he still finds a way to score. One of the stats I hope he improves on is his FG%. Scoring 40 is cool and everything but having to take 40 shots to get it kind of makes it a wash. Maybe you add the percentages to this list.
I thought we'd see more of him on the box. It started out that way, but now that he's feeling better he went straight back to his old ways of scoring. Driving, high pick and rolls... I'd like to see more box again.
Ok I realized that his age 36 season has just started so it's not a real comparison with the others. You're showing what he should be capable of. But for other post 30 stats he should only be compared to his position, can't compare his rebounds to Wilt's.
Kobe is about 16 - 20 games from passing Michael Jordan on the all time scoring list. 5 of the top 6 scorers were Lakers at one point in their careers. What's crazy about the list to me is, Dirk is in the top 10. I woulda bet he hadn't made the top 20 yet.
Durant is a more athletic Dirk but no better of a shooter. There's never been a 7 footer who could shoot like that guy. In the league almost as long as Kobe putting up HOF numbers. You just bolstered his point that he doesn't get any street cred. Must be because he's such a low key guy overshadowed by a show time owner all these years.
In age 36 season Kobe has 187 points, 108th all time. Kobe has 24 assists, 126th all time. Kobe has 39 rebounds, 129th all time.
In age 36 season Kobe has 229 points, 98th all time. Kobe has 35 assists, 112th all time. Kobe has 47 rebounds, 134th all time. (I must've entered this rank incorrectly last time.) I just noticed that Dirk and Kobe are both in the age 36 season together. Dirk has played 9 games. Kobe has played 9 games. Kobe has played 63 more minutes. WTF, Byron?
Kobe last night looked like he was fearful he swallowed kryptonite. Let's keep our fingers crossed it's just the flu
Kobe has 273 points, 87th best. Kobe has 38 assists, 109th best. Kobe has 52 rebounds, 133rd best. 30 point games at age 36: Kobe has 4; only Duncan (5), Havlicek (6), Kareem (9), and Malone (27) have more. 40 point games at age 36: tied with three others for the most (1) 40 point games since turning 30: Kobe has 29. Only Jordan (44) has more. 30 point games since turning 30: Kobe has 142. Only Jordan (175), English (190), and Malone (201) have more.
Whew! Liked his honesty about how he tries to let team do it's thing but if someone snatches a purse right in front of you at some point you have to run down the bad guy until authorities arrive. Very telling. Just hope swaggy p return can help out on minutes and getting other players to move their a## down court in transition.
Kobe has 330 points, 77th best. Kobe has 48 assists, 101st best. Kobe has 61 rebounds, 127th best. Movin' on up.
What about his rank in those stats with players playing in their 19th season? To me the amazing thing isn't that he's putting up these stats at the age of 36, but rather the mileage he has on his body after playing thru 18 NBA seasons.
Those numbers are already ridiculous. He's basically had a better season than all but a handful already. In his 19th season, he has the 8th most points. Only Malone (with LA) at 554, Stockton at 884, and Kareem at 1165 scored more than 500. On pace to finish first. He's 6th in assists. On pace to finish 2nd (Stockton dished 629 dimes). He's 9th in rebounds, but he won't likely move up above 5th. Pretty crowded after 300 rebounds.
Kobe has 347 points, 75th best. Kobe has 55 assists, 94th best. Kobe has 68 rebounds, 126th best. 19th season: 7th in points 6th in assists 9th in rebounds
Kobe has 374 points, 73rd best. Kobe has 59 assists, 90th best. Kobe has 72 rebounds, 123rd best. 19th season: 6th in points (passed KG from last year); should pass Robert Parish next game. 6th in assists 9th in rebounds
