That's a good point. I hope most NBA players have more respect for coaches in general and a better sense of reality than LeBron, but I can see the benefit of adjusting the coach choice to their perception.

That being said, it seems that some people are using the Euro label as an argument to say the to date accomplishments of guys like Messina or Blatt don't really mean much. That I can not agree with

Byron would have said something along the lines of play harder.

ROFY "like" does not come close to how good that read, wherever you got it, is on Luke. Sure confirms what I have been thinking about the amazing succession of basketball influences he has been exposed to his entire life, and the type of personality in the L.A. media scene and leader as coach of the Lakers he could become. The guy is going to be that good, somewhere. I'd appreciate it if you would post a link to it, or if it is edited from an even bigger article, then maybe just paste it all. Shirley there are longer reads pasted. ;)

While applying for a lot of jobs recently, this actually isn't one I have applied for. I would gladly be the fourth coach supporting a three man team with a head coach who knows the x's and o's for a change. I would be the lakersball representative to pass suggestion and shade as required, and read aloud any posts you require me to:Mitchthumbs:. :Signcontract:

    / thread.

You don't hire a guy that got fired by the 76ers. And he actually did OK there.

I have to assume he and guys like Dunleavy are buddies of the system so they get a courtesy call every year.

I think the Vegas odds of Collins getting a real shot here are probably 10,000 to 1.

Kenny Atkinson was one, and I mentioned canales as another. I imagine industry insiders could expand that list significantly. hell, the lakers had two of these guys on their bench just a couple years ago (quin Snyder and steve Clifford).

I just don't understand the myopia regarding Walton. I'd take him, but I also think it's possible that whomever the next laker coach is, he's bound to fail, simply due to where we are in the rebuilding process. even luke could fail trying to win with what's here/likely to be here.

my larger point is that as long as it's not some high priced name re-tread, it's going to be ok. and that's a tall order, btw, given how the lakers have chosen coaches lately.

^ I actually think it's pretty difficult for the next coach to fail. They literally can't do worse than Byron. Nobody expects the next coach to make us contend instantly. The allure with Luke isn't his X's and O's. It's a familiar but fresh face that points to a long term vision; something this team desperately needs. I think most Luke supporters also think that he has enough cred in the league to have pull with players.

Fisher and Shaw's names have been thrown around. Shaw's not a HC IMO and Fisher isn't ready.

I would love for one or both to be assistants to Luke or Messina.

Shaw would make an excellent assistant.

lol BOron thought he won't be replaced if he has no strong assistant coaches. The exact opposite actually happened, his incompetence was exposed because of the lack of strong assistant coaches.

I'm just glad that whoever we hire will have a set rotation of players at the end of preseason, NOT 20 games into the regular season. That's what really pissed me off during B0ron's tenure.

Great video with Messina...(can't help but think of B0ron while listening when he talks about people who don't admit mistakes)

Felt the same way when he was still experimenting that long with the rotations like pre-season was still going.

If we come out of this with Doug Collins as our coach I might legitimately be done with the team. I'll at least have to step away for a while.
