Dwight reportedly wants max money. Is Dallas or Chicago going to give it to him? I'll believe it when I see it.

JVG may end up in Houston, but until Houston hires him, he's fair game.

Not sure if anyone will offer Howard max money... Dallas would be a good fit for him for now. Chicago with Rose and Butler? Don't see it. If he is not happy with his opps now in Houston, it would be worse there.

On topic: Seeing Dunleavy's name up there in Other makes me cringe...

I think the pick and Clarkson are going to be used as trade-bait, with Randle and Russell being our untouchable future. That being said, what type of player do we want each of them to become, and which coach is most likely to mold them into that?

IMO, Randle should and could model his game after Draymond Green. If he ever gets a respectable 3pt shot, he could absolutely be a better offensive and elite rebounding version of Draymond Green. He has the tools, but our frustrations with him were his lack of understanding (especially defensively), which is where he has a lot of room to get anywhere in Green's league. Boron was obviously a poor communicator, poor motivator, poor leader, and poor xs and os guy. The right coach might just turn Randle into something great.

Now Russell, I'd like to see model his game after Steph. I'm not anticipating he become equal to the best shooter in history, but he could certainly be Steph-lite but with better defense.

Who better to run a system that would place Randle and Russell in roles to approximate Green and Steph while also being a great communicator, is relatable, and likeable to young players than Mark Jackson....j/k Luke Walton.

If the lakers get a top 2 pick I don't think they trade it. If the lakers were close to the playoffs and need that one player to get them in, I can see them trading the pick and clarkson for that player. The Lakers are in full rebuild, they are keeping the pick and clarkson IMO unless a HUGE opportunity comes along.

we're safe from dunleavy considering he just got hired at tulane but it's still hilarious to think that they interview him every time the position is open and no one knows why they do

I could see us building from total scratch, and i personally hope they do. But remember Jim's need to improve VERY soon in addition to the fact that it probably takes at least 1 all-star (that we'd have to trade for) to lure any big FA this summer. I doubt we get a big FA to come with just the promise of our young core's upside.

I'm with you. With every coach we talk to one question I'd ask is "If we decide to go in another direction would you be willing to talk to us about an Assistant position?"

Some people might be insulted by it, but I have to ask just in case.

Not that Isola is a Laker insider or a Durant insider or... well it's just his own opinion.

By the way, I think he has no shot. The Lakers are not in a position to take a risk on someone who only has a bad track record so far. No record will be viewed more favorably than a bad track record most likely. Simply no margin for error.

Not that they're tied together at all or even likely, but hypothetically would you welcome fisher as coach if that guaranteed Durant? Duh, yes...right?

I'd welcome Byron Scott, Mike Brown and MDA back if it meant Durant was coming here next season. It would be a flood gate back to contention with how much money we would still have and trades we could make with some of our young guys.

I voted for Luke. I can't even really justify why, I just want someone with a fresh perspective, someone younger that can grow with these players and remain with the franchise a long time. Messina isn't exactly old either at I think 56, but I just feel like we should get in on the ground floor with Luke. He managed that GS team excellently with Kerr out, he learned from Phil as a player, he learned from Kerr as a coach, who learned from Pop, his father is a smart basketball mind as well, I see a lot of potential in him. I don't want Fisher, and yet I can't justify that either, as he has more experience than Luke, and also learned under Phil. I'd be happy with the any of the 3 guys in the poll, I'm just leaning toward Luke today. I don't envy Mitch and Jim with this choice after making 3 terrible hires in a row. They can't mess this one up.

i still think low-cost options like kaleb canales (or other unknown, yet well pedigreed candidates) make the most sense for the current situation. i'm not holding my breath, though.

'Most coaching staffs have three main assistants, and other guys with more specific roles, often in Player Development. I think we'll retain Larry Lewis, and I'm not sure about Madsen.

I think Casey Owens is a very likely candidate to join a Luke Walton staff. He's a strong X's & O's coach who was an assistant with Walton when both coached for the D-Fenders in 13-14. Owens has since become the HC of the D-Fenders, and they're playing in the deciding game of the D-League Finals tonight. He's both a good choice and a likely one, IMO.

I'd love to bring David Blatt on board as Luke's right hand man if he doesn't get the New York gig. I'd also try to make Ron Adams the highest paid assistant in the game, but he's currently with the Warriors and probably couldn't get out of that contract. Jim Boylan might be a worthwhile addition as a defensive-minded coach.

As for Messina, I think Owens fits him as well. Along with the strong X's & O's, he's young and relatable.

It's a hard question to answer because I don't know whose contracts make them available, I'm sorry.'

    More insight from GT.
