Saw a post on Reddit suggesting it might be a better idea to split some of our cap on two lower-tier 3 and D swingmen as opposed to overpaying for someone like DeRozan or Batum. Going after guys like Kent Bazemore and Courtney Lee. I think that might be a good idea.

From a basketball standpoint, it's not a terrible idea.

From a marketing perspective, it's not so great. Kent Bazemore and Courtney Lee don't sell tickets. And I don't believe they are good enough on their own to turn us into a playoff squad.

You know our FO are going to swing for the fences and while we wait for those to be strike outs, those middle tier guys will already be off the board.

obviously not going to happen for several reasons, but given the postseason performance, who says no to a hypothetical Clarkson/derozan swap?

I'm against adding DeRozen in any way, shape, or form. Dude in brittle mentally. I don't think that'll change.

Remember when Byron said all the free agents were telling him they want to come to LA?

Well we finally get to see now that he's gone.

I still don't have high hopes for this offseason, but our chances of signing quality players go up quite a bit with this moron of a coach gone, and if we make a good or great hire. You hire a coach guys want to play for and our pitch becomes instantly better, just like I'm sure having Thibs in any FA pitch meeting in Minny helps them. We had NO chance of getting anyone with B0ron, now we have a chance of at least one big name I think, even if that's just Whiteside or Horford or something like that.

I have been watching the Indiana - Raptors series scouting DD; I have some thoughts on him; however, for now, one player that I have come across to really like is Biyombo. I'd take a serious look at him.

There are some decent wings this free agency: Deng, Green, Affalo, Lee, Bazemore, Parsons (if healthy), etc.

We could find some real hidden value, IMO. A net positive from the SF position is something we haven't had in years. I am looking to improve that.

@Weezy our pitch gets better just because we made the obvious decision. If we had NOT fired Byron, it makes the FO look like they have absolutely no idea what they're doing. At least now they have... some idea.

@RandleROFY yeah this series has really cemented Demar's issues. He had such a great opportunity to shine here and convince everyone in the NBA to offer him a max contract. I still think he gets a max offer (us included) an while I won't be upset about it necessarily, my excitement level from that is certainly dropping. He can't be THE guy we get.

I could see something like: Derozan, Whiteside, and maybe Deng or Afflalo with the cash we have left over. That would be a good summer even if all those guys aren't perfect.

Trodgers will love to hear that. He's been all over Biyombo for a while now. I like him too. If free agency doesn't go our way with the big names, I'd love to see us snag him for 7-9 million per season. If all we manage to do is keep our pick and then sign Biyombo and Bazemore, it would still be a solid offseason in the right direction.

I saw you put Whiteside in our signing. I obviously have to say something...cause the first 400 times I've said, "DO NOT WANT" isn't enough.

I'd rather we spend 8 million or so on Biyombo to man the center position with Black for the next few years. Whiteside, while he seems like he's a 2nd or 3rd year player is actually 27. Our "core" of Russell, Randle, and hopefully Simmons is SO young, Whiteside would be out of his prime at the time they all get there. Since Whiteside is likely just a placeholder until we are actually competitive, I'd rather sign two solid, but cheaper (and therefore more moveable) pieces so we have flexibility in case we have a shot at making a big trade.

I sincerely do not care about our young guys' "prime". Eff their prime. I want the Lakers in their prime.

Give me 2-3 players this summer who are 27-31 or so. That way we have players in their prime right effing now and a group of players who will hit their prime as the other ones decline.

We have on our roster right now 3-4 players that will take 3-4 years to be the best they can be. I'm not going to pass on great players so that we can wait 3-4 years to be competitive. I'd rather be in the playoffs the next 3-4 years while the young guys finish baking in the oven so that at the end of 3-4 years at least we've been in the playoffs and they're ready to really take over the league. It's better to be competitive now so that we can be interesting to other players. Right now we're irrelevant. We're the Clippers until further notice.

I don't care about your hopes and dreams, I want Whiteside!

And Biyombo is going to cost more than 8 million, you can book that one.

After seeing what DeRozan has done this postseason I don't think there is any doubt Whiteside should be the number one choice after Durant. He's had a consistent stretch of high level play on both ends of the court. Last season was a breakout year and he's only gotten better this year. I mean I just don't know what else he has to do. He's one of the best big men in the game right now.

i still like derozan; i just think if you want him, you should wait out toronto's buyer's remorse and pick up another goodie from them.

i also still see no reason to believe whiteside leaves miami (or durant leaves okc, for that matter).

horford doesn't want to finish his prime rebuilding, so i think this means realistic plan A involves none of the names in which we have the most interest.

i'm still firmly in favor of utilizing the flexibility by making a full max RFA offer to harrison barnes, though. gotta make gs sweat a bit.

If you don't like Whiteside the player that's one thing, but I can't get behind the "he's too old" argument. You don't pass on talent because they don't fit age wise with your core, that may or may not even pan out. I'd sign Horford and he's even older I believe. Whiteside is not Shaq, never will be, but to me that's similar to saying no, don't sign Shaq because we drafted this kid Kobe. Not on impact, but on passing a top 2/3 center in the league because our kids are 20-24 and he's 27. That's not a good reason to me at all, Whiteside is entering his prime and it's showing and I think he's fit fantastically next to our young core that like get out and run. You need a good mix of vets and youth to win anyway.

Simple. Money. They can't pay him more than any other team and a team like the Lakers can offer him. Not even sure they can offer him the max. Don't have his bird rights. We can offer him a starting spot and not only that at least for time being the best player and building around him.

This free agency is flawed, but we have to spend our money, and I want to improve the team. I'm tired of being in the cellar. I like the combination of players you listed. That's what I"m looking at myself; a DD, Deng pairing would be interesting. DD provides a number 1 option offensively, alleviates the pressure from our young crew, and when we see those Kobe throwback games last season, we seen our young core thrive because of the attention the defense was giving Kobe.

Deng is a legit 3; big, long, vet, etc. Another tidbit: he can play small-ball 4. So, if you choose to go small, he has the versatility to do so. I like the pairing personally. The potential problem can be spacing. Deng is not a great 3-point shooter; neither is DD, but I'd worry about that later, and now that Byron is out of the way, a good coach can make the pieces work.
