I agree with all you said...but the way it was cut and the amount the tried to stuff into it was the problem. It felt very disjointed. All that stuff you said is WHY I'm so mad. They had all the ingredients. They just threw them in in the wrong portions and undercooked it.
I respect your opinion but I disagree on almost every point. It's really not a good movie. I mean it's not as bad as Rotten Tomatoes wants you to believe, but it's not good either. It's not even better than Man of Steel. Affleck's Batman has great potential, but he's not better than Bale. The only thing he does better than Bale is the voice, but other than that Bale is just better. If you had a good writer and director, I would say Ben has the potential to be better but right now he's not. Eisenburg did a good job, but that's not Lex Luthor and honestly he was kind of forced into this plot with convoluted logic. I liked the actors and I feel bad that they have to be attached to this movie. I thought all of them brought good to the table, but the plot is really bad. The dialogue is really bad. The exciting moments just don't really make up for the awful ones. If you like the idea of heroes fighting, then Civil War is the movie you should look into. I'm not just saying that as a Marvel fan either. I was hoping this movie would be great because I love the Justice League. Their animated show is the best animated superhero show ever in my opinion. I was looking forward to this setting up that universe, but it just didn't do a good job. I think 6/10 is a fair grade, but not higher than that. We can agree to disagree though! To each their own.
They took two of the greatest stories ever told by DC and forced them into one movie while also getting a ton of screen time for Amy Adams AND trying to find ways to get Justice League introduced. They told a 2.5 hour story that wasn't long enough. This would have been much better as two separate movies, but they felt pressured for whatever reason to force this story out there.
Saw it. Pretty much what real said. Not terrible, but far from great and not really even good. It's like they took ten different ideas for a movie and stirred them up hoping that the mix would be good because more is always better even though it's not. My personal peeves: They ruined Lex Luthor. He is not the Joker. Just because everyone loved Ledger's Joker does not mean every bad guy needs to be a clone. I thought I was watching a Lois Lane movie. Why did it take an hour of back story to get into the meat? Do we really need yet another Batman origin story? Can we please move on from the Kryptonian stuff? Good stuff: Aquaman cameo was not as lame as I expected. Batman and Wonder Woman were both decent. Batmobile was great. Batman made good use of his utility belt throughout the action sequences.
Agreed completely. For what it's worth there's a rumor that Eisenberg originally auditioned for a small role as the Riddler that was eventually cut from the script. Sheds a LOT of light on what we see from "Lex Luthor".
Man I'm getting nervous about this movie lol. Was planning on seeing it Sunday with wife and her friend. (They're drooling over Cavill) I personally thought MOS was decent, not great but not bad. Was hoping this would be at least better than MOS. I'll be honest, I'm not that thrilled about Eisenberg playing Lex. Based on previews he seems too comical. Was hoping for a more sinister, cold, calculating Lex, kinda like Smallville's version. (My favorite version of the character on screen). Looks like I'll be lowering my expectations for this one.
I suggest going in with low expectations honestly it helps. I went in with rock bottom expectations and felt like it wasn't awful. If you go in expecting it to be great, most people have been disappointed.
I haven't seen it yet, but seems to be very polarizing. I'm not a big comic book fan. I enjoy the movies, specifically Batman, Ironman, XMen, Deadpool, and Gurdians of the Galaxy. I think in part because I don't know the back stories. So the writers and directors have free reign and it's not gonna bother me. To anyone who didn't like Batman vs Superman -- did you know the story from the comic books beforehand? I wonder if that played a part.
Still a week before it hits the cinemas in Poland. I have a feeling that if it had Marvel instead of the DC "sign", people would automatically liked it more... .
There's definitely some of that going around, but half of that is actually DC fans who are angry about a bad product.
They adapted two of DC's greatest stories into one movie and it feels just as crowded and flustered as you'd think it would. It's not just a bad comic book story, it's just a bad story in general. If they'd split this into two movies it would have been much better even the parts that strayed from the comics.
I thought that exact same thing BEFORE I saw it. After seeing it, I know that's not the case. Is it as bad as Rotten Tomatoes is saying? Not even close. Is it still an enjoyable time at the theater? I believe so. But it has big problems that are "filmmaking" problems that have nothing to do with their takes on the characters, the story it was based on, the actors they chose, etc. It was choppy and disjointed as a narrative. My problems had nothing to do with the stories they tried to tell. It was really just a matter of it being too much all at once. Thinking back to Avengers 1, this movie was essentially Justice League One if you want to compare. The big heroes all sort of fighting throughout the movie, then coming together to beat back an enemy. This movie could have been titled Justice League 1 just as easy at Batman vs Superman. With that being said, they should have done a standalone Batman movie, a standalone WW movie and maybe even a sequel to Superman before this ever was made. It would have allowed them to cut through all the universe building that took place in the first 40 minutes and jump right into the actual narrative of THIS movie that was quite enjoyable. It's as if WB thought that this and Justice league movies make considerably more than a standalone Batman or Superman film. The truth is it's probably not much more if you do them correctly. AND... Spoiler: kind of spoilery, but not actually saying what happens The end climax/cliffhanger should have ended more "happy" so when DD comes back as he always does, he can do what he did at the end of this and have a bigger payoff in a future film. Everyone was worried that DC was rushing into this shared universe thing instead of laying proper groundwork. I was actually willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because do we need another Batman origin? But I was wrong. They DEFINITELY needed some universe building. And I loved Man of Steel by the way.
Saw it. I liked it. Better than MOS? Yes. But I'll admit it did have problems. Yes too much Amy Adams, not enough Superman doing...Superman stuff. Affleck plays a good Batman, and I still hold to my criticism of Eisenberg playing Lex. However comical may not be the right word, more like nutty. His performance would have been perfect for the Riddler role he auditioned for, but I guess we're left with him as Lex for now.
I'm on my phone, so I'm not going to post a full review cause I have a lot to say and don't feel like swyping that much. In short... -thought Batfleck was fantastic. Easily the highlight of the movie and made me excited to see Ben's vision as writer/director/actor for a stand alone (or as many as he wants to do). I absolutely buy the rumor that Ben would punch up/rewrite his lines in his trailer before that day's filming. -along the same lines, I liked Irons' take on Alfred. Fresh take by a very good actor. -I truly loath Snyder. He's an awful filmmaker. He specializes in visuals, but even there he can't differentiate any of his films. I am scared for justice League. He needs to be reduced to an EP for that one and just collect a check and maybe throw a few visual ideas. His dream sequences he forced in here were so distracting and utterly pointless. -Lois Lane absolutely pointless. -Superman was an angry d*** for no reason and nearly as pointless as Lois. How can the co-lead seem pointless in his own movie? -"Lex"...they failed by not going with the natural choice of Cranston. Lexs's plot against the two "heros" was ridiculous. His actions and ticks were downright silly. -doomsday managed to be even worse than he looked on the trailer. Didn't think that was possible. All that said, I enjoyed the muddled mess. It's an event movie. Big in scale and run time, no so much in action. Probably one of the more entertaining messes on film in awhile.
I've heard an interesting theory recently. That's not "Lex Luthor" as we know him, rather it's his son "Alexander Luthor".
That's how they introduced him. He's the son of some other Luthor named Alex. Which is just as stupid as having the Riddler be Lex Luthor.
If it's not supposed to be Lex Luthor then why did they do the scene at the end with him getting his head shaved? Doesn't matter though. Apparently they were locked into that actor as the bad guy and he was locked into playing the Riddler no matter what they called him.
Fans of DC comics should be upset about this. Really upset. The only chance of getting great DC material in film is if this movie tanks and Snyder is removed from his position of power.
It's too late to cut ties with Snyder. JL is going to start shooting in less than 2 weeks. They can't dump Snyder this late in the process. WB hitched their wagon to Snyder...for better or for worse. Snyder is quickly becoming Michael Bay to me. Tons of flash, zero substance and lucks his way into directing beloved intellectual properties that drive ticket sales. I may not be the best at picking pieces, but I am usually right when it comes to the leaders. I was right about Byron and I was screaming bloody murder about Snyder being given Man of Steel.
