Does anyone else find it really painful to watch college basketball? All these teams do is dribble around for twenty seconds, make passes around the perimeter, and can't even beat simple zone and trap defenses. It's brutal basketball.
March Madness is great. Do I die, win or go home. But, yes, the pace of the games is frustrating. Also, you've got on most good teams, 2 guys who can play and 3 who are fodder.
The only college team that doesn't suck to watch is Kentucky. Coach Cal basically prepares his team to play NBA ready basketball. The rest of the game is hard to watch, zone defense and waiting 20+ seconds to shoot drives me crazy. Ingram looks like a future stud. Excited to see Sabonis play later. Georgess Niang looks like a future stretch 4 in the NBA.
I'd trade the pick if we got an All-Star back in the deal. I like Ingram, but he'll take at least 2-3 years too develop. If nothing materializes on the trade market, then by all means, if you have an opportunity to draft him, do it.
I like Saboner Jr too, but what are you talking here, trading down if we get that top 3 pick to get him? Taking him if we have the 3rd pick? I don't really see him as a top 3 pick as good as he's looked in the limited time I've seen him. He's skilled, but skinny, and he's a PF, and we have 2 rookie PF's right now. Would we be moving Randle in a trade if we drafted him?
I don't envision a scenario in which we land him. I just want him in this team somehow. His offensive game is so pretty.
Oh ok, I get you. I was just wondering if you had some scenario in mind where we trade the #2 or #3 pick for a really good player and something like the 10th to 15th pick where he is projected to go from what I've read. If we could get a really good player and the pick to draft Sabonis, that's something I'd have to consider, we have PF's, but none with his skills, and we are trying to go after a SF in free agency anyway if we don't think Simmons or Ingram are as good as advertised. If we land the 1st or 2nd pick, I highly scrutinize those 2 players first, but if we land the 3rd pick, I absolutely look to see what we can get in a trade for it first. I see no clear 3rd pick, nobody jumps out at me.
I love college basketball, but it's got to either be good matchups between the good teams in the regular season, or tournament games. Mediocre teams, bad teams, good teams vs bad teams in the regular season, unwatchable. But games with teams fighting for seeding, to stay high in the standings, can be great stuff. In the tournament, 8/9 matchups are often great games. And in recent years like this one where it's more wide open like this tournament, have given us some great 5/12, 3/14, even 2/15 games. Underdogs vs the big schools and making it a game to the end or winning, that stuff is awesome. It's fun because these are kids, playing for the love of the game, or to earn an education. It's essential they play team ball, they are really tight groups of guys, coaching really matters, every possession is like a chess match. And the underdog schools, a lot of these kids are never going to be in the NBA, the D-League, or even overseas ball, this is it for them, this is their big moment, a chance to do something in a game we remember them decades from now for. That's why college ball is great. I guess that can be applied to all or at least a lot of college sports, but for me there is nothing like March Madness. College football is a better sport, but we don't get to see those guys faces like we do college basketball players and plus each football team has like 100 players on it. A lot of these underdog schools have to rely on 8/9 key guys to stay in their game. Lastly it also depends on what region or conference the teams you're watching are in. I love my team UCLA, but the ball they play isn't comparable to what's played by the stuff from the schools in the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East to name most of the good ones. It used to be way back, and then it was again for a while in the Farmar, Afflalo, Mbah a Moute, Collison, Love, Westbrook days, but that's long over.
If we get the pick and Ingram is gone, if consider it. I wonder where he's going to end up after the tourney, in terms of mocks.
Brice Johnson with 13 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks with 11:45 to go in the UNC/Providence game. I really like this guy.
Ingram is a pretty safe prospect. He has length and can shoot with great range. That translates well to the NBA today. Great great fit for our squad! We need an SF that can stretch the floor
Draft Lottery can't come soon enough.. Less than 2 Months to go. This Top 3 Protected Pick situation is Cruel..
Is Buddy Hield maybe worth a look if we get the 3rd pick? He's having a heck of a tournament, 36 points, 7 boards today, took over the game in the 2nd half to get the win for Oklahoma. He's 6'4, maybe an undersized SG, but we only have JC at that spot right now, and we are supposedly going after SF's in free agency.
Helps that he just had a great game, but if we are fortunate to keep our pick and are at #3 I think long and hard of going with Buddy Hield. I'm starting to prefer a player who is ready to play/contribute from the git go, has experience (4 yr player), and fits a need for us without having to have a play ran for him. I know we have Russ and JC already but Hield is only 22 years old and if we are #3 that's who I want us to strongly consider. If we did draft him we could either look to trade Lou or JC for another player if need be..... but I'm okay with keeping JC Chris Dunn is another option, but with the way Hield shoots the ball and is underated in other areas of the game (rebound & defending) its easy to see the appeal for him.
I think Hield would be a good option at the 3rd pick as well. This wasn't his first great game though, he's dropped 46 on Kansas before. We could have our own version of the splash brothers if we do draft him. He wears #24 too!
